Free Music Notes for The Journey: The Best of AdiemusFree Music Review: An Incredible Find! Hit: 5 StarsIf you are like me, you purchase a CD hoping to find a few songs that you truly enjoy. Such was what I expected from this CD. I heard samples on Amazon that convinced me to give it a try. I found it to be different from the start: a beautiful cover of a leaf in season with that leaf shown in it's autumn beauty inside, symbolic of "the journey." Upon hearing the CD the first time, I found it so unusual- so different from anything I'd ever heard. I also found that for the first time, I could not discard any of the tracks as not being potential favorites. I heard it again... and again. It became the only thing I wanted to hear, and each time I heard it, I enjoyed it even more. Just as the music is universal, so is the language. It's a language "invented" by Jenkins to blend with and enhance the musical score. This marvelous creative addition is only the start: the London Philharmonic Orchestra combines with the Adiemus chorus to produce some of the most incredible music I've heard. I am awed by Karl Jenkin's creative talent. I am awed by the precision with which all the vocalists and musicians perform. It is an amazing combination of blending of instruments and voices that journey through beautiful key and tempo changes, swells, with changes in mood that moves this listener to tears. I am not easily impressed, and this is the first review I've posted. If you are like me, you know that there is something out there that you are deeply longing to hear. This was it for me, and could very well be for you too. If you enjoy it half as much as I do, it will be a favorite addition to your collection.
Free Music Review: Wow - what a sound Hit: 5 StarsI wandered into the NEW AGE corner of a well known music store the other day to sample a few CDs - looking for something different and pleasant to listen to. After listening to 5 or 6 CDs - this one blew me away. What a sound! The combination of African drum rhythms, full orchestration, and the well blended female voices result in a sound I wasn't expecting and a CD I can't stop listening to. I'm definitely going to add the rest of the Adiemus CDs to my collection. My favorites are Hymn, and Zarabanda.
Free Music Review: Good sleeping music Hit: 5 StarsVery nice music. It's all in a different language, which makes it better. All of the songs are wonderful. If you're looking for good, soothing music, this is definitely it. But it's not all gentle. Some of the songs, such as the second part of the "Chorale VI + Cantus - Song of Aeolus" is very upbeat. All in all, it's a great CD.
Free Music Review: The best album I've received as a gift, EVER! Hit: 5 StarsI first heard Jenkins' songs on the TV ads, and I, like many others I bet, sing along to the tunes when the Ads come on! :-) Not long after this, my school choir (of which I am part of) decided to sing the "Adiemus" songs, and after singing "Adiemus" in our School Christmas service for the past two years, as well as in local competitions - which we won! - I received this CD- "The Best of Adiemus:The Journey" for my 18th birthday. I love it and definately recommend it. Most of my friends have bought it and also love it- hearing the pro's certainly makes us work that little bit harder! I will definately take this CD with me when I start University in September! :-)
Free Music Review: Enya-like? Hit: 5 StarsHeard this when I walked into Border's (sorry Amazon!). I thought *maybe* Enya had a new album although the vocals sounded different. Another song passed when I realized it wasn't an Enya copycat, but something much, much more.I guess the best way to describe it would be to say an amalgamation of world and classical music - w/ the gloomy/spooky enya-like vocals to tie it all together. I gave it a quick browse through in the store's listening station - but it wasn't until I heard "Cantus" tracks 7 & 8 that I realized this was a keeper - even though it was $18 + tax (phew!). Now I see that even w/ the shipping it's cheeper here at Amazon - plus I could've gotten something else thrown in as well (go get Shawn Mullins - Big Blue Sky just for the heck of it). Anyways - that's my two cents - listen to and buy it here. Oh yeah, that's the other thing - after I asked what the album playing was - we still couldn't find it - it's hidden in either the New Age or Classical section - depending on where you go. Or why bother hunting for it - buy it here! (can you tell I feel guilty!) :^)
