One of those discs that is impossible to justly reflect. The other customer review gives an accurate description of genre (it's not at all electronica), but perhaps not a full sense of the emotional content that propels this concept album. If you think you'll appreciate something of that ilk it is a disc that will more than reward you.
This is one of the most unique sets I've heard, with flavors and tones that may bring to mind many cultures and times, shedding light on connections now very distant. It takes you to the unique place it comes from: Where the sky meets the tundra, with the delicacy of a too brief Northern summer, longed for after a winter when the sun never rises.
Yet one may glancingly be reminded of myriad elements Native American, Asian, Folk, Acoustic, Americana, Northern European Arthouse, perhaps even a beautiful figure from a Hendrix ballad or a small shard of the best prog rock. While the musical elements are undoubtedly not traditional in the way that the vocals are so totally authentic, their blending is perfectly formed to raise this project to the pinnacle it achieves: A dialogue on many levels, deceptively gentle, and mesmerizing in its provocation to explore associations.
The purity is haunting, the depth of feeling astounding. The very things that endanger the nearly lost culture suffusing this disc are in some ways the other side of the technologies that allow us to discover and hear this while it still exists.
This is a disc that makes the world a better place and redeems the technologies that also threaten to end it.
FYI if you want to get another view of Adjagas you can stream a full live performance on video from the Kennedy Center Millenium Stage. As with the best musicians it's an adjunct complementing what they do on this disc in a longer set with somewhat fuller instrumentation that nevertheless retains the same feel (and sent me looking for whatever was recorded of them). I hope there will be more.

2007 release from the Electronic duo who have roots in the indigenous Sami population of northern Scandinavia, their language (the Sami have 10 different dialects, in one of which adjagas describes the mental state between sleeping and waking), and their use of traditional yoiks: allusive, deeply personal songs that have no beginning or end and have been described as "musical landscape painting". You can hear traces of Sigur Ros's wintry sparkle, Air's rippling warmth and the narcoleptic mantras of Mazzy Star, relocated from the desert to the Arctic tundra. On tracks such as 'Siivu' and 'Ozan', the dialogue between ancient and modern, known and unknown, is spellbinding. Ever.Folk Music CDs
