Free Music Review: Adrian Belew - Teams Up With Members Of Tool And Primus

Belew released 3 albums in succession entitled "Side One", "Side Two", and "Side Three" between 2004 and 2005. This first one is probably the most King Crimson like of any of his solo records. Along with Belew the first three tracks also feature Les Claypool from Primus and Danny Carey from Tool. The tracks "Ampersand", "Writing On The Wall", and "Matchless Man" are all very cool and worth getting the album for. Claypool and Carey fit right with below to form an infectious groove. The rest of the album is primarily Belew by himself, and considering the fact that he can play just about anything, it is all quite good. Most of these tracks would fit right in on a King Crimson album and fans of Belew's Crimson work would probably eat this up. The one knock on this disc is that it is only 33 minutes long which is not much more than you're average EP yet the album is sold as a full price album. The material here is all good; there is just not enough of it.

Belew's latest project is the solo album Side One. It's a "power trio" album featuring Primus bass guitarist Les Claypool and Tool drummer Danny Carey. Side One is also the first of three albums (already completed) exploring Belew's eclectic creative tastes.Alternative Rock Music CDs
