Free Music Review: Sensual, exotic and wonderful

I first heard Adriana Calcanhoto's sensual and soothing voice in a taxi cab, and had to ask the driver about it. He kindly wrote down the name of the singer and thanks to Amazon, and a few dollars I can enjoy her at my leisure. I am glad I did, she is a real talent and the arrangements are an eclectic mix of instruments and styles, from cello to electronica and nod towards rap in a couple of the tracks (my Portuguese is non-existent, unfortunately). Sometimes I am reminded of Patricia Barber with her use of spoken word, and deliberate dissonance. The only track that I dislike is "Music/Impressive Instant", which makes the serious error of trying to use an English lyric. Just skip it and enjoy the rest of the album. My only other gripe is that the mastering is a bit too hot, i.e., overcompressed. Hence 4 stars instead of 5. Cantada
