Free Music Notes for Adriana EvansFree Music Review: Silky songstress channels 70's soul Hit: 4 StarsThese days, making a 70's-flavored pop record usually involves little more than some sampled horns or the sound of a needle touching down on scratchy vinyl. For Adriana Evans, however, such cheap tricks are not enough. Relying on an apparent wealth of 70's influence, Evans has created an album that sounds fresh out of a time capsule. "Love is All Around" and "In the Sun" are both glowing midtempo numbers with killer hooks, ballads like "Heaven" and "Trippin" are intoxicating forays into the land of Mellow, and "I'll Be There" boasts a more-than-obvious Minnie Riperton influence. Even when her beats and vocals are more modern at heart ("Seein is Believing," "Hey Brother"), the hooks stay simple for a back-to-basics approach that is at once classic and innovative. Throughout the project her soulful vocals soar into high registers to sing the praises of love ("Swimming") and question the wrongs of society ("Reality") with equal abandon. What's especially striking about the album is its instrumentation: horns and strings are at the forefront, and a vibraphone is often found in the mix as well. Bringing a classy jazz element to her writing and production while maintaining modern sensibilities regarding vocals and beats, "Adriana Evans" is an album that was designed to cross genres. Sadly it never recieved the commercial success it deserved; however, if artistic integrity is any comfort to Adriana Evans, then she must feel as warm and satisfied as the listeners of her record.
Free Music Review: Adriana, where are you? Your fans eagerly await part II Hit: 5 StarsThis is one of the best albums from the late 90's and where is her follow up? This wonderful singer combines the essence of such singers as Sade, Roberta Flack and Angela Bofil. An exceptional piece of soul. What was Loud Records thinking when they let her go? More proof that a hip hop label cannot sustain Soul and R&B acts to save their lives. Labelmate Davina suffered at Loud, and her Album is worth checkin' out as well. If you are a true music lover, Adriana Evans will send you flying to new heights. I just want more....
Free Music Review: A overlooked artist. It's a crime! Hit: 5 StarsThis album is a joy to listen too. Ms. Adriana has a voice all her own. You can't compare it to no one. A perfect marriage of R&B & Jazz that I ever heard come together. The vibraphone, pianos, bass, horns, They all compliment each other on every track. The songwriting is tight. And Adriana lyrics range from a variety of emotions. Hope("Heaven"), to despair("Reality"). I don't why there hasn't been another album from her. Must be her record company (shame on them). And finding this album in your store is getting harder to find. When you do find it, Buy it! It's worth every penny. This is one of the best album of 1997 or any other year. It's right up there. Believe that. GET IT!
Free Music Review: Great Voice, Great Music Hit: 5 StarsAdriana Evans, an underrated singer with an underrated album, has pinned one of the best R&B albums with her debut. Why is this slept-on? Every song is a gem. This has been a mainstay in my changer for almost three years. The highlights of this album are: Love Is All Around, Heaven, Looking For Your Love, Say You Won't, and In The Sun. When a group of singers are mentioned, you almost never hear this woman's name. Why? She can contend with the rest of them, if not then she is in a class of her own. If you want incredible vocals and music to match, then pick this up.
Free Music Review: Not Your Average Watered Down R&B CD Hit: 5 StarsIn this age of whining about heart break and everyone else talking about material items, it is a relief for a vocalist to come out with something different. She can definitely sing (not like other R&B singers that sound like they are straining) and the music itself is very laid back and relaxing.
