Free Music Notes for O, Yeah! Ultimate Aerosmith HitsFree Music Review: Great for casual listener, maybe less useful to the fans Hit: 5 Stars
Let's see the practical side first. The fans probably already own 99.99% of this material. This two CD set covers more or less the same ground than "Big Ones" and "Aerosmith: the best of" put together. It also shares a lot with "Young Lust", though the anthology proposes live versions and other rarities missing here. If you already have an extensive Aerosmith collection and/or the above compilations, you might want to think twice before spending the money. As far as I'm concerned, I have none of Aerosmith albums. Still, I knew and liked most of the songs listed on this one. That was enough to justify the purchase. If like me, you just want to get all the songs you know in one package, this is a good choice. When it comes to the music, I can only say that this band comes recommended - hence the 5 stars. "Dream On" and "Janie's got a gun" were always favorites of mine. I also loved "Sweet emotion", "Walk this way" (nice to get both the original and Run DMC version), "Dude looks like a lady", just to list a few. In general, CD1 reminds you of how rock used to sound like, when MTV was playing more and further than teen pop and r'n'b. CD2 contains all of their later successful ballads and some (pop)rocking tunes like "Livin' on the edge", "Falling in love is hard on the knees", "Pink" and "Jaded"... Most of those tracks are part of American rock history, just like the band that produced them. NB: My copy has "Come together", "Theme from Spiderman" and "Toys in the attic" as bonus on CD2, I don't know if Amazon listing is incomplete or if European pressing is different.
Free Music Review: ...from the best band EVER! Hit: 5 Stars
Aerosmith are America's greatest Rock N'Roll band ever, there's no doubt about it. This compilation is, indeed, very good. Why? Because, for the first time ever, we have their hits of the 70's, 80's, 90's and songs of 2001/2002 in the same record. I collect records(so far 560 cd) and I think that this record is a very good start for new fans of Aerosmith. In "O, Yeah! Ultimate Aerosmith Hits" there is a truly good prespective of the band's career. How can a band with 31 years of Rock 'N' Roll and more than 100 million records sold worldwide compilate their greatest hits without left some great songs out of the line up of the record? I think that's impossible. I mean, The Rolling Stones with a double CD of their hits, and no songs left?! That's why "Ultimate Aerosmith Hits" is a very good compilation of songs. Ok, "Rats In The Cellar", "Train Kept A Rollin'" or "Monkey On My Back" are not in this double CD, but we have their most successful songs in here. Plus, there are 2 new brand songs: the Summer Pop "Girls Of Summer" and the powerballad "Lay It Down". That's fair... After all, Aerosmith put out this record for a new wave of fans, for generations to come... This is what a fan like me, with all their material in hands, have to say to all of you: Aerosmith are in this double CD, with the best they offered us: Truly magnificent Rock. P.S.: all their records are essential ones, especially "Rocks", "Toys In The Attic" and "Pump"...

Free Music Review: It All Gets Better With Age Hit: 5 Stars
First things first...does the world really need ANOTHER Aerosmith hits package? Probably not. But, that said, if I was going to introduce this great American icon of band to a visitor from another planter this would be the package to start with. 95 percent of their biggest hits are here, most in their original form, plus a couple non-album additions ("Walk This Way" with RUN-DMC and "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing"), and two new songs (both of which are pretty good). I could nit-pick a little. For example, where is "Eat The Rich"?, why is the Run DMC thing included instead of something like "Train Kept A Rollin'" or "Come Together"?, why aren't there more songs (Disc One is over 70 minutes but Disc 2 is just over 60)? But, those questions aside, this is still great music, put in a nice chronological order. Let's face it. The die-hard fans have Pandora's Box, new fans probably have Big Ones or Greatest Hits, a few semi-hard core fans may have Young Lust: The Geffen Anthology...but this is the ONLY collection that is a Geffen/Columbia dual project with studio tracks from both eras. Thats pretty cool in and of itself and to have "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)" and "Seasons of Wither" on the same disc is really kind of nice. God bless this band for making my summer days sound better.
Free Music Review: A Nice Hit: 5 Stars
It's hard to not enjoy Aerosmith's latest "Best Of" compilation, even if you're just an occassional listener. The set list is fitting - chronicles many of the band's famous hits over a three decade span. A pleasant suprise, to me, was seeing "Seasons Of Wither" and "Draw The Line" - two of the boys' personal favorite songs (from what I've read many times. I don't know the band or anything). Speaking of personal favorites, the boys actually had all the say compiling the music for this 2-disc set, so at least you'll be listening to Aerosmith's favorite hits, and not some record company just throwing something together hoping to make money based on the band's name value (i.e. Columbia's Aerosmith's Greatest Hits, and Geffen's Aerosmith Anthology).I was shocked to see that "Toys In The Attic" , "Rats in The Cellar" and "Nobodys Fault" not make it. I guess you can't fit all the classics, huh? The double CD includes two new tracks, "Girls of Summer" (2002 single) and "Lay It Down". "Girls" never caught fire, although the video was praised for it's sexual theme. *I plan to review all Aerosmith CDs, so please remember my name if you wish to receive great advice on Aerosmith music*
