Free Music Review: Simply a Masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars
Toys in the Attic is simply a masterpiece and a prime example of true talent and excellent music. This is where Aerosmith made it big. Every song on here is a stand-out. The tracklist is as follows with my personal ratings:
-Toys in the Attic - 4/5 - Really good, but gets old after a while.
-Uncle Salty - 5/5 - Excellent guitar work and Steven Tyler does good without screaming on this one. It's very good.
-Adam's Apple - 5/5 Awesome guitar courtesy of Joe Perry. Nice vocals from Steven. It talks about Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and it's pretty cool.
-Walk this Way - 3/5 - Now I know what you're all thinking. "Oh great! It's that song they did with Run-DMC, right?" Wrong. This is the original "Walk this Way" which is just them, not the Run-DMC version. It is good, but I don't like it as much as the other tracks because I'm so used to the Run-DMC version released in the '80s. I don't really like the chorus of them singing the words "Walk this Way" because it's not Steven screaming like we're used to with the Run-DMC version. But it's okay nonetheless.
-Big Ten Inch Record - 5/5 - Shrot, funny, song, that sounds like it was made in th 50s.
-Sweet Emotion - 5/5 - I love this song. It never gets old. This song is just amazing. It's really really cool and never gets old. Excellent job on the guitars and vocals.
-No More No More - 5/5 - Excellent song, good lyrics and instumentals by Steven and the rest of the group. The vocals seem to fit right in the instruments perfectly. It's awesome!
-Round and Round - 3/5 - Well, this really doesn't make much sense. Maybe it was a side-effect of the drugs or something, but this song is just weird. It's good, though. And kinda gives you the same feeling you got when you first heard The Beatles' "I Am the Walrus." It's like, "Hey, this doesn't make any sense, but it sounds pretty cool, so I guess it's a pretty good song. Not something I listen to a lot, though.
-You See Me Crying - 5/5 - Unlike most of Aerosmith's songs, this one is a slow song, where Steven sings like he's never sung before here. It's nice, slow, and never gets old unless you don't like the occasional slow song. It reminds me of The Beatles' "The Long and Winding Road" with the piano and all.
All in all, once you've heard this album, you're going to listen to it over and over. It's a classic and always will be a classic. Once you hear this, you will be wanting to hear a lot of Aerosmith's other work, too. This is a masterpiece!

The Blue Spec format takes Blu-ray disc technology to create CD's which are compatible with normal CD players but provides ultra high quality sound. Sony. 2009.Originally released in 1975, this was Aerosmith's breakout recording. Listeners only familiar with their more recent, post-comeback material may be surprised; like their other albums from the 1970s, Toys has a strong blues inflection, as indicated by their cover of "Big Ten Inch Record," which also shows that Aerosmith has never lacked raunchiness or innuendo. There's also the original (pre-Run-D.M.C.) version of "Walk This Way," and the classic "Sweet Emotion." This is classic Aerosmith at its gritty, streetwise best; they may have been derivative, but it really doesn't matter, then or now: it's all in good fun. --Genevieve Williams
