Free Music Notes for Toys in the Attic AlbumFree Music Review: Toys in the Attic: major musical influence Hit: 5 StarsWith the advent of Nirvana, and the subsequent release of "Smells", rock guitar as we knew it throughout the 70's and 80's came to a screeching stop...no more would we have guitar legends like Page, Eddie, etc. Instead, the attraction of the soloing artist faded (except for the ever raging Stevie), replaced by melodic strumming and picking, via R.E.M., etc. Now with Kenny Wayne Shepard, Johnny Lang and the like making a showing, I advise all young guitarists to visit TOYS and experience one of the old masters in JOE PERRY. His guitar phrasings and boogying pacings show what blues-influenced rock is all about. From the enduring riff in ADAM'S APPLE, to the chopping fret work in SWEET EMOTION, WALK THIS WAY, and TOYS, you will be hard pressed to find a better example to follow. As a matter of speaking, when I play ADAM'S APPLE on my acoustic for an unexpecting audience, I get cheers. As soon as I mention the group, I get a resounding "no way!", undoubtedly due to their recent "softening". To Joe Perry I say: take a listen to your old TOYS and ROCKS recordings, take a lead from Kenny and Johnny, and do what you do best...rock out!!
