Free Music Notes for Invisible CirclesFree Music Review: Great album! Hit: 5 Stars
This is one of the coolest theme albums I've heard. It tells the story of a young girl who's parents are overly ambitious and treat her poorly because she was born. I mean the songs are just so good and the music is great. Everything about it is great!
Free Music Review: So for those who believe in this life spin out of the circle... Hit: 4 Stars
In my opinion, this is the best album of 2004 :)
I'll start by mentioning the good things about this album
POSTIVES
VOCALS: Wow. Floor is AMAZING. And I used to think Mariah Carey was a good singer. My mistake.
The growls aren't bad either, although some people have complained about them.
MUSIC: For music it's solid. There aren't really any guitar solos, so it's nothing special, but it's nicely arranged, so the music is good. The keyboards are awesome!
LYRICS/STORY: As you all probably know by now, this album tells the story of an abused girl, and the lyrics are written in a play format, meaning several songs have dialouge. In addition the album insides have the girls diary entries, so you can follow along with the story. It's very well written, and may put a tear in your eye.
NEGATIVES
VARIETY: Unfortunately, I have to give this album a star below what it deserves, because there just isn't much variety in the songs. But I guess it's not that big of a deal, because I love every song on this CD.
SONG HIGHLIGHTS
CHILDHOOD IN MINOR- This isn't one of my favorite, and none the less its not even really a song. It's an intro, and a rather creepy one at that. It sets the mood for the album, but eventually fades into the choirs at the begining of "Beautiful Emptiness"
BETWEEN LOVE AND FIRE- Floor and the growler, Sander, exchange vocal duties in this song. Floor plays the mother, and Sander plays the father. Basically, the song explains what happened before the little girl was born.
ECCENTRIC- A beautiful piano ballad that tells the feelings of the girl after a rough day at school. It may put a tear in your eye when you first hear it.
VICTIM OF CHOICES- The climax of the album, which features Sander, Floor, and the choir. I'm not going to give too much away, because you'll have to figure out what happens for yourself.
Overall, this album is definitely worth every penny. In an age where songs about money, sex, and bling are considered "Great Music", it's good to know that bands like After Forever still make music about issues in society that have a meaning
Free Music Review: Beautiful, and not at all Empty... Hit: 4 Stars
I'm a little choosy about my metal music. Melody is a must, and frontmen/women who can't sing can step aside. Once upon a time, I wouldn't go NEAR bands that made use of the overdone 'beauty and the beast' trend of coupling a lovely female soprano with a nasty, demonic male growler. So many bands in this vein do it-- and so many of them do it ALL WRONG.
Fortunately, there's After Forever. While the male growler vocal is liberally sprinkled in this album, it never detracts or overtakes the amazing performance put forth by soprano lead Floor Jansen. Her voice soars over the instrumentation in either a raw, powerful cry or a swooping, beautifully operatic soprano depending on the lines in question. Her voice alone is practically worth the album price, but it certainly doesn't stop there.
The instrumentation on this album occasionally goes a little over the top with dramatic overtures, and as another reviewer has mentioned, the songs do seem to blend together more often than not. In the case of Invisible Circles, though, it seems that move was probably intentional. Since it's a concept album, it's best listened to as one lengthy piece from start to finish. Some of the cuts near the middle of the album have memorable melodies, however, and definitely stand out on their own as great listens. "Digital Deceit" and "Through Square Eyes" in particular are well done.
The CD insert helpfully includes the song lyrics alongside images of the diary entries of the Child whom the album centers around, helping to progress the story as you listen. The story itself isn't anything grand or epic--as it focuses on a girl in an abusive, neglectful family who escapes reality through her video games and TV--but it's well played out on the album, and the simplicity and reality of the story is poignant.
If you have any reservations about jumping into the metal sub-genre with those scary, nasty growlers-- give this one a try. These guys actually know what they're doing, and they deserve a listen!
Free Music Review: One of the best after forever albums! Hit: 4 Stars
This album is bloody amazing after forever are sounding there best there most melodic and the heaviest on this album. Its also a concept story album with a story about a girl unwanted by people. But the only thing that concerns me with this album is the corney parts like the roleplay of the mother and father arguing, its just so scripted and fake "I hate you" and its all your fault and errrrr just stop plz!! lol Play the ace songs! Or at least make it sound a tad real. But other than that i love it a good buy. Just a shame they broke up :( lets hope they return sometime in the future for another album ehh?
