Kind of stunning how talented and consistent she continues to be. This is already sounding to be my favorite since "I'm With Stupid". Direct connection for me to her music-can't explain it-you either get it or not. Also I don't care about packaging 'cause, well it's packaging but really this is art as well. I may have to buy a new coffee table to leave it out on!! Cover alone is pretty great. If you appreciate fantastic songwriting, this one's got: Little Tornado, Great Beyond, Phoenix, Thirty One Today & other songs I'm only beginning to @#%&*! appreciate.Free Music Review: Aimee Mann at her Best

I have always maintained that Aimee Mann is one of the most under rated artists of our time. She is a consistently excellent songwriter and performer. Smilers is no exception. Aimee has a certain style that she has worked hard to maintain and refine, one that began to take shape on "I'm with Stupid", and really came to fruition on "Bachelor no. 2". "Smilers" continues with lyrically tight and melodically interesting songs that catch you from the word go. I LOVE this album! Ok...Admittedly I am an Aimee Mann junkie...But honestly, I did NOT like her last album (The Forgotten Arm)...This one, however, I loved! I am not sure I would say it is her best but it is certainly a return to form. I just wanted to post this review in case there were others who did not like her last album and weren't sure whether to buy this one...If you liked her previous albums (before The Forgotten Arm), I think you will like this one. Smilers has smart lyrics, catchy melodies that stay with you, perfect instrumentation/production and innovative packaging. This is musical art at the highest level! I have been an Aimee Mann fan for years but this is the first time that I absolutely love every song. This is not only one of Aimee's best albums, it's my favorite CD of the year. It will be weeks before I take this album out of my CD player.Free Music Review: Another excellent AM outing

This is quite a nice return to form for Aimee Mann after her previous concept and holiday CDs. She makes it seem so easy to create songs with hooks and lyrics to die for. There is enough variety to keep one song from blending into the next and the artwork is once again outstanding for those who enjoy such things. Fans should be pleased and those new to her will find plenty to like here.
