Free Music Review: Aimee Mann is the best but another miss! Hit: 2 Stars
I discovered Til Tuesday while in high school in the early 90's. I fell in love with the music of Aimee Mann. I think she is by far one of the most talented and gifted songwriters ever! She has a great voice as well. Now to the critical part: Aimee had trouble with the record company trying to release her masterpiece, "Bachelor Number two"! The record company was naive and wanted "Voices Carry", or something. I know Amy was excited and relieved when it was finally released. I have all her solo Albums and Til Tuesday, I'm a die hard! After Bachelor Number 2 she went way into left field in her direction too far and I'm an open minded person! The first one "Lost in space" was just fair and had some good songs. The next album predicts it's own fate "The forgettable arm", it was very forgettable! It sounded droll and the songs had No melody's that of which has become an unfortunate increasing theme with Aimee. I feel Amy has more than proven herself as an artist by this point despite Half/decent albums. However, I wonder if Aimee has maybe experimented too much in left field that she may not be able to find her way back. This album starts good with an good first song than it drifted by and lost me, I love the title of it! It sounds like jazz at times and their isn't any melody or even depth to it. Similar artists like Sarah Mclachlan are making better records right now. I know Sarah has a collaborator and takes years in between albums but I just think Aimee can be just as good and hope, I have yet to hear her best work!
Free Music Review: Bring the band back Hit: 2 Stars
I couldn't wait to get this new CD by Aimme Mann. I listened to it over and over but it just isn't soaking in. I preferred the full band albums complete with drums and faster tempos. I'm hoping this is just a phase and she will return to a full band soon. And I hope she returns to Florida, the state she seems to put off on her tours. There are fans south of Atlanta Aimee. The acoustic thing is ok for a short time but not a whole album and 2 tours. I remember when I saw her in Atlanta for the Lost In Space tour and she opened with "The Moth", the drums kicked in and it was electrifying! I miss that feeling. Hope it returns.
Disappointing.
