Free Music Notes for KonvictedFree Music Review: Definately not a sophomore slump Hit: 5 StarsI'm an not a huge rap fan, my favorite type of music is alternative rock. I like alot of singles on the Rap/R&B charts, but there are only a few complete albums I enjoy. This album is one of those few... I like the mix between rap & r&b on this album, and it even has a touch of reggae. Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and Styles P all do a great job on their guest vocals. Akon's vocals are smooth and the lyrics are honest. It's just an overall good album.
Favorite tracks: Blown Away, The Rain
Free Music Review: Get rid of Da Rap Hit: 1 StarsIf he could get rid of the gangsta stuff, and stick to R&B like in Dont Matter, I might like it......
Free Music Review: 3-1/2 stars -- For your konsideration Hit: 3 StarsAfter Akon's first album Trouble (although there were a lot of albums released in 2004 with that title), I really didn't think he would have a lasting impression because a substantial career as a hardcore R&B singer is not an easy task (just ask TQ). But his latest album Konvicted is quite the improvement.
For one thing, the established rappers that guest on here do much better performances than the unknowns that filled the last album. Here, you'll find nice additions to already quality songs from the likes of Snoop Dogg ("I Wanna Love You") and Eminem ("Smack That" -- but what is Em doing on a song about sex?), as well as another collaboration with Styles P ("Blown Away"). But Akon also does a good job by himself, as evidenced on the #1 hit "Don't Matter" and his tribute to his homeland, "Mama Africa".
But one thing that does cause problems is when Akon tries a little too hard NOT to be hardcore. Case in point: "Never Took the Time" might be suitable had it been sung by any other artist, but from Akon, it seems like it came out of left field, especially how he breaks it down at the final chorus. And "Tired of Runnin'" has him talking about being sick of the gangster lifestyle, which seems to contradict the rest of the album. Speaking of that, "Gangsta Bop" is lazy.
While not a flawless album, Konvicted shows that Akon has some promise after all. If you can stand to have your R&B not 100% radio-friendly, then give it a try.

Free Music Review: Go Gangsta Hit: 4 StarsI was a little weary of checking this album out at first. The first two singles that came from this album did not impress me one bit: "Smack That" and "I Wanna Love You" sound like rehashes of any other club and sex track there is out there. Out of boredom, I decided to download the album, which was rather easy, considering it was only 12 tracks long. My unimpressed-ness quickly changed to the exact opposite. From the very first track to the last (minus the 2 radio hits), Akon dropped a gem of an album, in my opinion. He's got a good singing voice, and the production is top-notch. He produced or co-produced 11 tracks, and Eminem produced "Smack That". He wrote most of the lyrics as well.
The album starts off well with "Shake Down", a kind of "" track. The chorus and beat really start off the album right. "Blown Away", features Styles P, who always holds it down on guest appearences. Akon and Styles tell you you better not be a chump or you won't last long where they're from. "The Rain" has Akon slowing things down a bit as he sings nicely on how the pressure of being an artist is starting to wear down on him. The next track, "Never Took The Time", is about the loneliness he feels when his girl leaves. I love this track, personally. The horns toward the end really add to the feel and Akon's voice is perfect. "Mama Africa" is Akon's ode to the mother land, Africa. "I Can't Wait" has a nice sample in the beat and Akon dropped an inspired up-tempo love cut. "Gangsta Bop" is another street joint where Akon sings about the hood and how you better act when you're in it. "Tired Of The Running" is another excellent, kind of introspective hit. Akon sings with passion on how he wants to quit the street life because it just isn't in him anymore. "Once In A While" has a nice sample on the beat, and this mid-tempo cut serves as a type of positive "it's gonna be ok" track, which he perfects. The album ends as good as it started with "Don't Matter," where Akon slows it down again to drop another mid-tempo love track. This is also the 3rd single, I believe.
If his next project sounds better than this, then I'll be in line waiting at Best Buy as soon as it drops. I don't care for the 2 club tracks but the rest really impressed me. Akon does at good job at writing and producing as well, where the beats really add to the lyrics and his voice. Some people think his voice is annoying, but I think it's perfect, and it definitely works on tracks like "Tired of Running", "Never Took the Time", and "Don't Matter." I also like how he didn't put alotta guest appearences on here, so Akon really shined all by himself. He kept it short and solid as well, with limited filler material. I can't wait for Akon's next offering.
