Free Music Notes for Lay It DownFree Music Review: Jon F. Hit: 5 Stars
Unbelievably soulful! Every time I listen I still find it a miracle that this man's music is better than it was back in 1970's. As a DJ at my college radio station, way back then, I really enjoyed playing Al Green records. Over the past year I have downloaded a bunch of old Al Green for my Ipod. Amazon saw that and sent me an update about this CD's release, and I'm sure glad they did. All of the tunes are right up there with his old material. In fact, in some cases, I think he has surpassed his old stuff. Rev Green's voice is as good as it ever was, and the musicians accompanying him are outstanding. The producers of the CD knew what they were doing by not overcrowding the music. Al Green's music is beautiful and intimate. This CD let's all that come through
Free Music Review: The Good Reverend is back! Hit: 5 Stars
It is hard to believe that the Al Green of 1969 is the same Al Green forty years later on this CD. I mean, the voice, the tone, the moan, the music --- IT'S THE SAME GOOD STUFF! John Legend, Corine Bailey Rae, Quest Love and the other Roots personnel clearly know how to compliment a living legend and no doubt, they all studied Willie Mitchell and the Memphis sound. And what can we say about Anthony Hamilton. I have always said that this guy is a "throw back" soul singer, cut from the same cloth as Eddie Floyd, Johnny Taylor, Otis Redding, and of course, Al Green. I play this CD at home, in the car, and at the office. It's top quality singing, song writing, and most of all, LOVE SONGS! Of course, buy this CD and enjoy it with your lady!
Free Music Review: Al's Return to Al!! Hit: 5 Stars
In recent years Al Green has made some attempts at recapturing the Al Green of the 70's. The previous two Albums I thought showed Green trying to find his way back to that time, trying to find his way back to the formula that made him what he was. Finally on "Lay It Down" Al Green has arrived. One of if not the best soul and R&B album of the year. "Lay It Down" proves that the king of soul is not Legend not yet, he is still to current and is able to reach down through the ages and vibrate your soul. On Lay it down when the chorus keeps in strong for the first time you start swaying in your car wanting to pull over and start dancing with the first person you see. I give it 5 Stars but it is worth so much.
Free Music Review: Hands down. Album of the year! Hit: 5 Stars
Words cannot express how beautiful this album is. Lay It Down has the music and the signature of what an Al Green album should have. ?uestlove, James Poyser, Larry Gold, and the late great Chalmers 'Spanky' Alford have laced together an album that is natural, pure and true to the legend of Al Green's sound and feeling that has been long since oversaturated by today's R&B music.
Al Green is as sharp and as soulful as he's always been. The passion and soul in his voice is desperately needed in the current climate of music.
I profoundly recommend this album without hesitation or delay. This is truly a phenomenal piece of music with an icon of unmesurable status leading it's way.
Free Music Review: Just Lay Your Money Down Hit: 5 Stars
Just lay your money down right now and get this album! I would be surprised that anyone who already loves Al Green, classic Soul/R&B, or just good music in general, wouldn't enjoy this album a lot - even love it. I instantly loved and connected with several songs on the very first listen, and the others have grown on me to the point of loving them as well. The guest appearances are classy, and do not in the least feel corny or contrived to appeal to a younger audience. There are no new hip hop leanings for Al, as with many other seasoned artist's albums. It's just music made the way it used to be!!!!! Just get it.
