This work is what I consider the only true new rhythm and blues on the airwaves. Neo soul does not work for me. While it is a new album the songs and singing styles are from the 70" which is so great to hear.
In previous work Al seemed to be stuck between gospel and R&B, but he is clear on this album 'cause it is all about R&B. Also there are great duets. I wish I could hear more of it on the airwaves.

The Rev. Al Green has indeed made a comeback, and he did it in a big way. He walked away with two Grammy awards on two of his fantastic groove songs. They were "Stay With Me By The Sea" and "You Got The Love I Need". If you ask me, his whole CD is a fantastic groove. Just downright banging. I love this album. Once you start listening to it, it's very hard to lay the CD down. It's just that good.Free Music Review: Al never seems to amaze me!

I am 29 years old and have been listening to Al Green for as long as I can remember! I believe he is one of the greats and my most favorite singer alive! This album is wonderful, he kept it original but new, soft, just beautiful!!! Words can't describe- he can sing mary had a little lamb and it would be wonderful! This album is outstanding because it is vintage Al Green in 2008. What a treat. I call it triple S--spiritual, soulful and sexy. The music, singing, appearances by guests such as Anthony Hamilton, Corinne Bailey Rae, and John Legend make the album even more special. This is truly one of a kind from a musical giant and legend and definitely should be added to one's collection. We are humbled.Free Music Review: Al Green lay it down

A Walk Through LifeAl Green is back, and sounding just as good as ever! his style has not changed which is a good thing because too many artist change for the worse in order to keep up with the times. Al Green has some great collaborations on here especially with John Legend!. The music,singing, Lyrics and hooks are the key elements of any record, and it's safe to say Lay it down has them all!.
