Seeing Miss Saigon for the first time I was amazed at how I could feel so intense an emotion just by watching the characters. It was only when I heard Lea Solonga singing in the Miss Saigon original cast recording that i realized there is no musical that surpasses it in excellence. My friend was fortunate enough to see Ms. Solonga in it, and she was and is amazed. Johnathan Price speaks for himself, he is truly amazing! Buying this cd just brings to life all the empathy we feel for each character. I don't know how many times i've cried at the ending on the c.d. I've seen this play twice; in 1996 at the Queen Elizabeth's Theater in Vancouver and two weeks ago at the Orpheum Theater in San Francisco. Though I enjoyed it both times, I was also twice disappointed by the persons who played Kim. But in all fairness, I was comparing them to Lea Salonga. There is something so unique in her voice that completely captures the emotions of each song, particularly "I'd Give My Life For You." Joseph Foronda played the Engineer both times I saw it. He's magnificent and equals, if not surpasses, the caliber of Jonathan Pryce's rendition of the songs.Free Music Review: Lea Salonga stars in Miss Saigon like no one else can

If only Lea Salonga starred in every musical they would all be a success. She sings like no one elso can. Her Voice echos from my cd player everynight. YOu must buy this musical, It is AWESOME. EVERYONE in it give a star performance. My ranking of performers in thi musical would be as follows... 1) Lea salonga... of course 2) Claire MOore... lots of emotion 3) Simon Bowman.. nice tenor... 4) Peter Polycarpou... pretty good 5) Jonatyn Price.. This is absolutely the best recording of Miss Saigon. Lea is excellent as always. She really let's you feel what Kim feels.Her version of "I'll give my life for you" is fantastic. Simon is great, you just have to get use to his voice. The best songs of him is "Why God Why" and "Last Night of the world". Jonathan Pryce excels as The Engineer. His version of The American Dream is just wonderfull. The other performers Peter Polycarpou, Claire Moore and Keith Burns are great aswell. Simply if you're a Miss Saigon fan,this is the cd to have.
