Free Music Review: Much better than "original cast" version
Hit: 5 Stars

I grew up on this version (the movie soundtrack) but haven't heard it since the needle for our turntable went out of production. When I first heard of a nationwide CD search service, I called up and ordered it. Only the Broadway version was available, so that's what I gave my dad for his birthday. He was excited at first, but after listening to it once, it was relegated to the CD graveyard (the large shoebox under the stereo). I've never heard anything so operatic called "western"--way too Broadway for the subject matter. I'm excited to get the "real" version again after all these years! Thank you, Amazon.

I was delighted to find this soundtrack version of this fun musical. I still can't believe Lee Marvin sings, but I can't imagine anyone else doing this character. Great songs many people don't realize came from the play - "They Call the Wind Maria," with Clint Eastwood, "Wand'rin' Star," which is Marvin's most "musical" piece, for instance. If you enjoyed the film, you must have this album. If you haven't seen the film, rent it and be prepared to fall in love with these characters. If you've seen the film and didn't like it, you have my sympathy.

This is a great cd, and movie! The songs live on in your head for days. They are uplifting, funny, and musical. Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood's songs are great, and they all should have been on this album. Neither Eastwood or Marvin can be considered great musical voices, but they are fittingly adaptible to this musical. I'm disappointed that all of the songs from this film are not on the album, i.e. The Best Things in Life are Dirty, and Gold Fever.

Free Music Review: CORRECTION
Hit: 5 Stars

I SAW PAINT YOUR WAGON FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A DRIVE-IN IN 1970. I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT ALL THE SONGS FROM THE MOVIE ARE ON THE CD AND RECORD ALBUM. I OWN BOTH. I WISH TO STATE THAT MISS SHARON A. THOMPSON, ANOTHER REVIEWER IS INCORRECT IN SAYING THAT NOT ALL THE SONGS FROM THE FILM ARE ON THE ALBUM. ANYWAY, THE MOVIE IS BRILLIANT. ONE OF THE VERY BEST I HAVE SEEN. EVEN CLINT'S VOICE IS NOT ALL THAT BAD AT ALL.

OF ALL THE MUSICAL SOUNDTRACKS OUT THIS ONE IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST I EVER HEARD. I HAVE THE DVD BUT THE AUDIO SOUNDTRACK IS A LOT BETTER THAN THE SHOW--ALTHOUGH THE SHOW IS GOOD, TOO. THE SONGS ARE THE BEST LIKE. "WAND'RIN' STAR THEY CALL THE WIND MARIA I TALK TO THE TREES AS WELL AS THE OPENING SONG ["GOT A DREAM--GOT A SONG--PAINT YOUR WAGON AND COME ALONG"].
