Free Music Notes for Paint Your Wagon (1969 Film)

Free Music Review: Great choral work, some great songs, little else.
Hit: 4 Stars

This album is worth its weight in gold for Roger Wagner's stellar male chorus work and for Nelson Riddle's marvelous orchestrations. And then the principles start singing and the sublime becomes the ridiculous. Harve Presnell, mind you, has a great voice and does a great job. Jean Seberg does an okay job. But whoever decided that Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood could sing should be horsewhipped.

The orginal Lerner & Loewe songs are wonderful; the ones that Lerner and Andre Previn wrote (with the exception of "A Million Miles Away Behind the Door") are embarrasing. Fittingly enough, they're pretty much sung by the two male leads. But they'd be embarrassing sung by anyone.

Bottom line: if you can put up with the horrible solo work and a few bad tunes, this is an otherwise fine soundtrack.

Free Music Review: Hated the movie but love the soundtrack
Hit: 4 Stars

I was not a fan of Paint Your Wagon. While watching the movie, the songs were dull and boring. All except "They Call the Wind Maria". I love Harve Presnell's (also of The Unsinkable Molly Brown) voice. It's so rich and strong and expressive. I bought the CD just for that song. Now I've started to listen to the full CD as I'm getting ready for my day and I've come to love more of the songs. Still not all, but they are fun and some of the voices are just beautiful. Give the soundtrack a chance even if the movie was a dissapointment for you.

Free Music Review: The best Open Air musical of all times
Hit: 4 Stars

I believe this was written and played in Theaters, before the movie was made. But, with the exception o Oklahoma AND PARTIALLY OF "South PACIFIC" This is Cinema, not filmed Theater.
The script is superb, the actors (including a very soft Clint Eastwood, that even sings) are superb.

A magnificent piece of true "Americana" with minimal violence and maximal fun. A joy..

Free Music Review: Husband's favorite
Hit: 4 Stars

I got this for my husband because he loves the music from this movie. He would play the movie and fast forward to all the songs. Now he can listen to it all he wants and I don't have to sit through the fast forwarding.

Free Music Review: Soundtrack of the movie
Hit: 4 Stars

This CD is the soundtrack of the movie. My favorites are Lee Marvin singing "Wonderin' Star" and the male chorus of "Maria". If you liked the movie, you'll like this.
