Free Music Notes for Flavors Of EntanglementFree Music Review: Flavors best served complete Hit: 5 Stars
Alanis Morissette's new album Flavors Of Entanglement is a stunning departure from her previous work.It effectively blends her earlier anger present on Jagged little pill, but with a more grown standpoint.Standout tracks are: Not As We , Straitjacket,Incomplete,In praise of The Vulnerable Man and the bonus tracks Orchid and Madness. The album has very different sonic melodies and lyrical infusion that's going to make this a classic album. She sings of everything from being broken hearted to being frustrated with anger and her view of the events we face every day. Looking inside outside and forward it maintains its anger but not without objectivity. The songs remain effective as you could feel yourself in them as anyone. This record has original but approachable songs that will suit a lot of peoples taste. The bonus tracks are well worth getting, the stand out is Orchid a beautiful ballad with sonic backdrops that give it a character all it's own. This is one recipe you should order full.
Free Music Review: Flawless - best since Jagged Little Pill Hit: 5 Stars
As an avid Alanis fan since '91, I own each and every one of her albums (the original disc, not digital copies), and I have memorized just about every track she's ever recorded. LOL (I'm not psychotic I promise) And I can tell you, based on my thorough familiarity with Alanis' recording career, that Flavors of Entanglement is neck-in-neck with Jagged Little Pill. Until now, she has never been able to re-create that magic she sparked with JLP. She now is exploring different avenues of synthesizers, drum machines, heavy-bass dance tracks, etc., and she masters it effortlessly. It's as if the lyrics are like a 'Jagged Little Pill pt. 2' and the music is just a brilliant orchestra of color set to a modern sound. She opens up on songs like 'Tapes', 'Not As We', and 'Madness', and we come to learn why we love her so much! It's really a quite magnificent record, and I am so proud of her! GET IT IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT! :-)
Free Music Review: This pill is not so jagged Hit: 5 Stars
Along with everyone else I was a big fan of Alanis's major label debut album, "Jagged Little Pill" back when it was released. However because a co-worker felt the need to play the album non-stop for about three months the album became annoying. I don't think I've listened to it since and haven't paid attention to any of Alanis's follow-up albums. Then last week I heard her perform one of her new songs on Howard Stern's radio show and decided to give the new album a shot. This is a great album from start to finish. She has grown a lot since "Pill" and the combination of her lyrics and Guy Sigsworth's production are a match made in heaven. There isn't a weak track on the disc but the piano ballad "Not As We" is a stand out track for me. "Straitjacket", "Underneath", "Moratorium" they're all great. The album is loaded with hooks and much like "Jagged Little Pill" this is a disc you will play over and over.
Free Music Review: THE ALANIS I ONCE LOVED IS BACK Hit: 5 Stars
I just received this morning the new Alanis Morissette album FLAVORS OF ENTANGLEMENT, and the first thought I had while listening was: finally!
This "finally" is for 2 reasons: one is for the long, very long four years since her last, SOCALLED CHAOS, and the other one is for the album itself, which recaptures the impressive, amazing, weird sound of S.F.I.J, the album I consider Alanis best.
Some of the new songs (few I have to admit) I find average , or merely good, like Moratorium and dance-oriented Straitjacket, but the high points are really high, like the opener Citizen of the Planet, the emotives Not As We and Torch, the first single Underneath, or the agressive Versions of Violence.
This is the album one expects from Alanis Morissette (at least do I): great songs, great production, beautiful lyrics, full of heart.
FIVE STARS
Free Music Review: Her best album since JLP Hit: 5 Stars
I have enjoyed all of Alanis' albums, even while the world turned their back on her. Yes, they weren't all solid, even, and tremendous on first listening as Jagged Little Pill was, but they all grew on me to a point where I really enjoyed them. This new album is Alanis grown up, with a new sound mixed in with the old. I can't stop listening to it, I haven't changed my playlist in a week. Thank you Alanis for making a record I have to listen to over and over because I keep hearing new things and I am singing them in my head during the day!
If you are a mature listener (over 30?) who enjoyed Jagged Little Pill, I can not imagine you not loving this after a few listens. I downloaded this instead of getting the CD in the mail. Instant gratification! Wonderful! Brilliant grown-up pop!
