Free Music Notes for Flavors Of EntanglementFree Music Review: Alanis at her best Hit: 5 Stars
I like to wait for a few months before giving an accurate review of an album like this because there is a lot of depth to it, musically and lyrically. Anyway, after seeing her perform many of these songs in concert in Philadelphia, she really has created some long lasting favorites that will be staples of her setlists for the future. Alanis has always been very challenging when deciphering her meanings to her lyrics, and these songs are no exceptions. Some are very blunt and to the point, some are very clever in their hidden meanings. Musically the entire CD has a nice flow to it, and the extra songs are a must to have.
Her voice has matured beautifully over the years. Somehow she still has control of both rage and solitude in one breath. This is Alanis at her best for 2008.
Free Music Review: Best Since Jagged Little Pill Hit: 5 Stars
Really love this CD. 8/11 songs on CD 1 I really like. 2/5 on CD 2 I like so I would say the 2 disc isn't a must, but definitely get the CD. Its a great new sound for her and I enjoy listening to this one over and over. I haven't bought a CD in years just downloading an occasional song off of iTunes, but this CD was worth purchasing.
I think people who are giving this album negatives are just missing the negative angsty lyrics from Jagged Little Pill. You can't repeat Jagged Little Pill. It's obviously what shot her into stardom, but give the girl a break and really take the time to enjoy by far one of the best albums that will hit shelves this year. It's new and different and a refreshing change that is bonused by Alanis' amazing unique voice.
Free Music Review: Perfection! Hit: 5 Stars
This album far exceeded my expectations! Every song is smart, runs from the ache of heartbreak in Not As We and Torch, to whimsy of Giggling, to the fun of Tequila with BFFs with much more to fill out this treasure of an album. Listen to every song in a quiet place to truly get how both her writing, singing and the music bring together this masterpiece in an often devastating and always beautiful way. Her voice is strong and penetrating, the lyrics smart and deeply touching, the music different and still very much enhances the songs more with each listen. Anyone who has ever deeply loved will be touched and enlightened by these songs. Welcome back Alanis, we missed your voice!
Free Music Review: Strong and Occasionally Strident Hit: 5 Stars
Alanis definitely continues with her trend of Adult Alternative. I'd prefer not to "enjoy" profanity in my music, but not only is she profane, she's profound and there's so much musically and lyrically going on here that I have a hard time downgrading it. There's a strong Indian influence here on a few tracks. Ms. Morisette's sound never gets trampled by this influence but it makes a clear impression. One track seemingly blends digital audio effects popularized by the Matrix, and an Indian hip-hop beat... This album is infectious, powerful, thoughtful, raucous, light-hearted, and lambasting. It's a wild ride, and one of the best albums I've heard in a long time.
Free Music Review: excellent alanis! Hit: 5 Stars
Just an all-around great collection from Alanis. Had to listen to it twice, all the way through, before coming to that conclusion...her music takes more to absorb for me....but that's why she's great! The complex music that is behind her deep (although at times simply stated) thoughts....what a great mixture! I LOVE the extra songs that come with the deluxe edition....makes me wonder why they aren't on the main edition, they're so engaging. I gotta say, this is what Alanis is about...raw, deep, emotional music with a great beat. It is a great way for her to return to the music scene and reclaim the glory of her first and third CD.
