Free Music Review: Fine Album with Great New Songs
Hit: 4 Stars

Alanis' new album shows that she's still capeable of writing great songs that you will return to many times. In fact, at least half of the album ranks with the very best she has recorded throughout her career. The strongest songs are those with sparse, almost fragile arrangements like the melancholy but beautiful "Not as We" and "Torch".

The first single "Underneath" is classic catchy Alanis, and another favourite.

"In Praise of the Vulnerable Man" has an unusual arrangement for Alanis with oriental inspired strings but the songs works really well.

Some songs though have been given too much techno sound and come out somewhat overproduced.

The closing track "Incomplete" is a catchy waltzy tune, and fine end to an album that has its ups and downs - mostly ups.

The bonus CD contains 5 songs and it's wonder to me why a fine song like "Orchid" was left out of the original album. A quiet acoustic melodic song. Also the piano accompanied "Madness" is a solid addition.

Free Music Review: I Like It.
Hit: 4 Stars

I really haven't had too much exposure to this artist's music, mostly the songs I hear on the radio. I am thinking that this might be the first time I actually purchased a CD of hers. I really like it. I have like other songs she has produced but never felt really driven to buy an entire piece of work by Alanis before. I think this particular CD is musically very rich and fun to listen to more than just a few times. There is a wide swing in the mood of the music and seems to be pretty open in expressing the feeling of the artist. When you can relate to the feelings I think it makes the music more enjoyable.

Free Music Review: Club Alanis?
Hit: 1 Stars

Had I not been so happy to see Alanis finally released another album I would have been more careful to listen to the sample clips before downloading. I think this is the first time I've ever wished I could get my money back for music.

If you like what happens when a DJ gets ahold of a song and remixes it with a club beat, then you'll probably like this album. It seems like they decided not to wait for the DJs this time and just released the remixes first. Unfortunately I was under the impression that Alanis was growing in a less electronic, more introspective, more enlightened direction in recent years and expected something more along those lines. If you had that impression too, I'd advise you to keep waiting. Maybe we'll get lucky and she'll release an acoustic version in the future.

But if you're looking for something you can dance to, and you would rather have an artist's lyrics well hidden behind an overly-produced canned electronic club beat, then give it a try. You won't find anything unfamiliar here.

Free Music Review: ALANIS DOES IT AGAIN
Hit: 5 Stars

I AM A HUGE ALANIS FAN, AND HAVE BEEN FROM THE BEGINNING OF HER CAREER. I HAVE TO SAY THIS ALBUM IS EXCELLENT, IT'S TOTALLY DIFFERENT SOUNDING THAN ANY OF HER PREVIOUS MATERIAL.THIS ALBUM AFTER A 4 YEAR BREAK WAS WELL
WORTH THE WAIT.ALANIS SEEMS TO BE GETTING BETTER WITH AGE, SHE IS STILL
INVENTIVE AND EXPRESSIVE.
