Free Music Review: Truly an incredible album
Hit: 5 Stars

It boggles my mind sometimes how underrated this album is. It doesn't have as many commercially big hits as past albums, and it is certainly differant from other alice in chains cd, however in itself it is a truly great album.

Like all of my favorite albums, it is an album in entirety. You can, and should listen to it the whole way through, as you can gain so much more through listening to the entire cd than merely a song or two. If many of the songs on this album were released with the other AiC albums they would have faltered, but with the dark moody style of this cd they mold together into a really great music experience.

This cd as a whole is emotional, hard and grungy yet musically firm, and both lyrically and in regards to sound truly a great album.

If you can come at this album without wanting or expecting what you recieved from "dirt", I strongly urge you to buy it.

Free Music Review: One of the best "Metal" albums of the 90's
Hit: 5 Stars

I find it interesting that so many people dislike it when a band tries to expand their sound, or try something even remotely different. Many of my Alicefriends do not like this album at all, they are content to play their Dirt CD's into oblivion. AIl of AIC's albums are fantastic in their own right but, this one has so many cool little nuances that I think it puts them in special place among the Seattle bands. Frogs, bong rips, seven songs over five minutes, and groovy packaging. Is it Mike Inez? Maybe. Maybe it's the fact that Jerry Cantrell had lots of time and money (which I've heard was the case) to just screw around. I think it is easily their darkest and heaviest album, and it's the best hard rock album of the 90's along with Tool's Aenima and Kyuss's Blues for the Red Sun. I recommend this album to anyone who likes dark music and has strong ear drums.

Free Music Review: Dark, Melodic and Compelling... AIC were one of a kind
Hit: 5 Stars

Alice in Chains final studio release was their best one. Better than Dirt? Yep, This album has every element that made Alice in Chains great. The same themes are present here. Deep, dark, melodic, eerie lyrics dealing with the dispair and lonliness of heroin addiction really send shivers down your spine. Cantrell and Staley complimented each others voices better than anyone I've ever heard in rock. Grind, God Am, Over Now, Frogs, Again and Sludge Factory are all classic Alice in Chains songs that for me really sum up the Seattle Grundge movement of the mid 90's. Thank god we got this masterpiece before Layne met his final fate (R.I.P, For any fan of the band I can't recomend Layne's autobiography enough, it really does a good job with the heart-breaking story about his addiction, plus it has a really worthwhile interview with the late singer's sister.)

Free Music Review: Nothing Like It
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is breath-taking. Mind blowing. The music sad, beautiful, angry, and desperate all at once. This is Alice In Chains' greatest album, even though at the time the band was more disillusioned than ever. Every song, from Grind through to Over Now, is just drenched in pain & misery. And yet, the band has never been better musically. They can just take off and play these abstract, technical rhythms and riffs. Not to mention the vocals... Layne and Jerry create more haunting vocals than ever before. The mood on this album is that of misery. I listen to this album whenever I'm sad, angry, frustrated, etc. Knowing the things Layne went through, it makes my problems miniscule. Listening to this makes me feel like I'm not so alone, and strangely, it even gives me comfort. Just to simply get lost in these songs... Alice In Chains is not an album to miss.

Free Music Review: Leaves us wanting more, to this day...
Hit: 5 Stars

Layne was apparently so addicted to herion during the sessions for this album that he was losing teeth, and apparently some of his extremities. Yet, this guy manages to pull off some great vocal work, and still kicks the ass of every cookie-cutter Layne-wannabe today. Everyone else on here have done a great job describing the songs, so no need for me to beat a dead horse. Every track has a likable aspect, from the dark epics of Grind, Sludge Factory, Head Creeps, and God Am, to the thought-provoking elegies Heaven Beside You, Frogs, and Over Now...as for the others? Definitely worth the listen.
This, along with "Superunknown" from Soundgarden are two great examples of some modern-day classics hitting Number 1. Why can't we have this anymore?
