Free Music Notes for Unplugged

Free Music Review: Masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

Of any of my favorite Recordings put on Cd, this is amongst the very top of my list. There are many infinitely talented musicians out there, legends, like Clapton, or Led Zeppelin. I am not saying this album beats the works of the legends. What I am saying is this performance IS legendary.

Alice In Chains are incredible, thier music is honest, at times not perfect, buts shows so much talent. This show, at the end of AIC's live career shows the ability and passion this band had with its music. AIC's music is full of pain, regret, and sadness. These aspects show in thier music, and in this recording, in Layne's voice.

At this phase in Layne's life, Herion had him. Still, Layne's voice is powerful and true. Rarely do you ever see a singer sing lyrics with the tone of such sincerity and truth. The whole band performs beautifully. Layne's voice is definitely shows sings of his addiction in this recording, but in a way that makes the album much more passionate and real. I don't see it as a fault in performance what so ever. This is not an album filled with the cheezy, teenage angst "rock" released in the 2000's, The lyrics and music reflect honest and personal feelings and private demons, which sadly proved too much to bear for Layne, who died of his addiction and personal turmoil.

Since its "unplugged" obviously its not a heavy rock album. But anyone who appreciates Rock, grunge, or acoustic performances or what ever, can easily appreciate this performance. Truelly a classic Recording.

Free Music Review: For an Unplugged album, the musicianship displayed in this performance is beyond electric
Hit: 5 Stars

When thinking of Unplugged albums, Eric Clapton and Nirvana are among the most mentioned for top honors. The show was cancelled, but when Clapton's performance was released to CD, the response showed that the concept was extremely well-received.

I believe this album is the most underrated of those recorded for the unplugged series.

This show came near the end of this grunge outfit's career with the sudden death of singer Layne Staley. However, there is nothing less than incredible energy and life breathed into these tracks by Layne and his bandmates. Songs like "No Excuses" and "Brother" from their two mainly acoustic EP's are easy standouts for their already stripped origins.

Many, including myself, are not aware that co-founder and lead guitarist Jerry Cantrell lends vocals quite often, even lead vocals. His voice combined with Staley's create an eery harmony that has made their sound signature atop the grinding guitars and bass. This is an excellent collection of songs, including "Got Me Wrong" "Rooster" and "Would", performed with an acoustic edge and stripped to their essence with perfection.

Whether a longtime follower, occasional listener, or you are completely unaware of who Alice In Chains is, this is an album to have if only to hear what happens when great musicians come together and show what they are capable of.

Free Music Review: Alice In Chains Goes Full Circle
Hit: 5 Stars

With the taping of the Unplugged show and the eventual release of this CD, Alice In Chains completed their career. As with many other Unplugged shows, they tend to be a bands best and sometimes last performance together. Yes, Alice In Chains did four more shows after the Unplugged show but it was their last solid effort.

When the opening notes of "Nutshell" hit me for the first time, it was euphoric. I had heard this music before but there was something different...these songs in their acoustic form allowed me a better appreciation of the band. I had heard the metallic versions of "Man In The Box" on the radio when I was younger and frankly, I was not keen on it. Hearing the acoustic versions brought new light to their music for me.

The CD showcases the artistry and chemistry that Alice In Chains had. This CD was a whole new side of the band. I think this CD is for anyone who is interested in Alice In Chains as well as those who are new to them. It is the perfect way to start your Alice In Chains experience.

If you do not own an Alice In Chains CD, this is the place to start because if you fall in live with this CD, you will adore the rest of thier heavier material as well.

In my personal opinion, this is the greatest CD I own. There is no competition in my mind. I have purchased this CD twice because I wore out my first copy. This is a CD you will grow to cherish as you listen and in time you will find, it will remain in your collection forever.

Free Music Review: Greatness Defined
Hit: 5 Stars

All I can say about this CD is WOW!! This is one of the legendary bands to come out of the "Grunge" era. This CD has everything you could ask for in an acoustic set. Stanley's vocal power is not lost even though he is in a durg induced haze and a downward spin that would evenually cost him his life. Jerry Cantrell's guitar play is in a word Awesome. It is too bad that Stanley had to die before Alice came into the greatness they so richly deserve. I would highly recomend this CD to anyone who loves Alice in Chains as well as people that realy enjoy acoustic sets.

Free Music Review: Excellent
Hit: 5 Stars

I remember when this came out. I thought it was late into the game because it was 1996 and grunge was over. Looking back on it now 1994 and 1996 wasn't a huge time difference, but when your a kid its eternity. Excellent album.
