Free Music Notes for As I AmFree Music Review: Keys Still Captivates On Newest Release Hit: 4 StarsOn "As I Am," Alicia Keys continues to prove that she is at the forefront of the greatest musical talents of this generation. It may not be as good as her previous releases, but it proves that she will continue to be a force to reckon with in the industry.
Her playing continues to sparkle, her voice continues to be sensual, ironic, pleading, and unappologetic on such cuts as "No One," " Lesson Learned," "Superwoman," "As I Am," and "Like You'll Never See Me Again."
Alicia Keys may not be a superwoman, but she is a superstar. She need not be ashamed of "As I Am."
Free Music Review: Alicia does it again Hit: 5 StarsAlicia Keys is an amazing artist. She has had success with her first two albums, and this most recent one does not disappoint her fans either. Many of the songs are played on the radio on a daily basis--this speaks of their popularity. I personally really enjoy listening to this album. I feel like Alicia has been working on varying the style of her songs in this album. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has liked her other albums and anyone who likes this type of music. If you have had no introduction to the R&B/Neo-soul genre, this would be a great place to start. Alicia won't let you down. :)
Free Music Review: It grows on you Hit: 3 StarsThe more I listen the more I like it. It didn't grab me at first... other than No One
Free Music Review: Left me wanting more Hit: 3 StarsMore than Alicia Keys' first two albums, this one had me kind of disappointed. I guess the reason I'm disappointed is that it's obvious how much talent she possesses. She can sing, write, play, and she's got so much soul in her sound. So why wasn't this album off the charts?
"No One" is a terrific song. "Like You'll Never See Me Again" is definitely a soulful, catchy, emotional song that connects. I like "Where Do We Go From Here" and "Go Ahead," but I don't love them. "Lesson Learned" with John Mayer is an easy song to listen to, but a bit boring. "Teenage Love Affair" is just, for lack of a better word, cheesy.
I thought "The Diary Of Alicia Keys" was loaded with good songs that displayed a true talent about to enter her prime. After hearing "As I Am," I can only hope her prime is still to come.
Free Music Review: Not in the same league as Flack and Knight Hit: 2 StarsThough I LOVE her hit "Unbreakable" from the "Unplugged" CD, there is a very simple reason that Keys doesn't measure up to Roberta Flack and Gladys Knight. In addition to her rather basic keyboard skills she has a pronounced pitch problem that is evident in both live and studio recorded work. She tends to sing sharp. Flack is well known among musicians for having perfect pitch and I have NEVER heard Knight sing a bad note: either live on on record.
