Free Music Review: Best Unplugged CD this year
Hit: 5 Stars

For an artiste to perform a 15 song-set live, it's no mean feat but neo-soul wonder Alicia Keys with her band (Onree Gill as musical director) and superb background vocalists manage to keep the beats going and the soul flowing. Unplugged gives no sense of the stripped-down minimalism that audience expected from live performance and instead her keen musical sense gives a richer sound production and colourful arrangement for most of the song pieces. Right from the start of strings-laden "Karma" to the grooves of "Heartburn", the enthusiasm is infectious. In a rework of Prince's "How Come You Don't Call Me", Key's staunch last cry will make you jump off your seat. "If I was your woman" and "If I ain't got you" are two lush ballads that speak heartfelt emotions. In "Fallin'" and "You Don't Know My Name", the arrangements in both even surpass the original. Keys plays it subtle in the affecting duet "Wild horses" with Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and bumps it up in the give-it-up recklessness of "Unbreakable". Mos Def and Common provide a befitting finish in "Love it or Leave it alone". This is the best unplugged CD in a long while. For music that appeals to the heart and mind, look no further - Alicia Keys has got the moves all right in this one.

Free Music Review: Sometimes stunning isn't just a figure of speech
Hit: 5 Stars

Sometimes...stunning isn't just a figure of speech. So many perfomers today of this age cannot even sing live at their own shows, let alone sing their heart out while backing herself up with quality piano playing, flawless, gorgeous and soulful piano playing, with a voice to match. The MTV Unplugged thing, well, Alicia has it in the bag. She reaches out to people through her music, and it's touching a lot of hearts. I wouldn't miss her concerts for the world. Whenever this girl sings, it's so soulful and real.I think if people want realness, beauty, power, talent, and fantastic music, the'll be into this CD in a major way just like I am. Alicia Key's rendition of "Wild Horses" by the Rolling Stones gave the song justice. That isn't said lightly. Alicia Keys/Wild Horses cover: passion. Alicia Keys, Mary J.Blidge, her new album is so confessional and soulful, she has taken her singing to a new level. Another young girl causing quite a stir playing the NYC rounds is Corinna Fugate, a lot of passion and rhythm in Fugate's renditions of her original songs. Fugate's voice is like the velvet night starry sky. And Alicia Keys has performed "Fallin" here like she's never performed it before. Give her a listen, you won't regret it.

Free Music Review: Keys Best Work Yet
Hit: 5 Stars

For those who haven't had an opportunity to see Alicia Keys in concert, her new Unplugged album will give you the chance to feel what the experience is like. From the eclectic instrument play, to the blending of musical genres, this album excels in every facet of performance.

In her new Unplugged album, Keys finds ways to make even her classics like "Diary" and "Fallin" sound new and improved. Keys adds some spice to "Diary" with a catchy salsa beat, while an African beat gives "Fallin" more power than ever before. "You Don't Know My Name" comes out smoother in Unplugged, as opposed to The Diary of Alicia Keys, using a smooth Jamaican rhythm to groove to. Its impossible to listen to Unplugged and not notice the soulful voice of background singer Jermaine Paul. At times he almost steals the show, nonetheless, it is Keys who remains the center of attention.

Alicia's first two albums were great, but after hearing this live album it'll be tough to listen to those now. Her ability to interact with the crowd, and her confidence to experiment with new sounds make Unplugged the best album I've heard this year.

Free Music Review: Krucial Keys In Her Natural Element
Hit: 5 Stars

From the moment that I heard the music of Alica Keys my first thought was an 'unplugged' performance with REAL instrumentalists emphasizing her abilities as a singer, composer and pianist. On 'Unplugged' Keys tickles the ivorys and works the fender rhodes with her own special flare especially on some super funky music such as "Heartburn" and her new
number "Unbreakable"-it's as if hip-hop had never invaded R&B and covered it over like a blanket. She certainly brings her youthful vigor to classic soul covers of "If I Were Your Woman" and "Wild Horses" but her most exciting moments are when she faithfully essays ghetto-soul/rap poetry on "Streets Of New York City".Hip hop (and reggae) show up on the closing "Love It Or Leave It Alone".As far as I am concerned 'Alicia Keys Unplugged' is my favorite contemporary R&B album of the year.It nods to genuine funk, soul and jazzy pop with the featured artist in her natural setting and I recommend this not only to fans but anybody with a closed eye on modern R&B who think it's still all hip-hop based and shallow because this is not.So take hold of your good karma and enjoy.

Free Music Review: One of the few artists who could be "Unplugged"
Hit: 5 Stars

In this industry full of velvet voices and artists unable to deliver the same energy or voice quality off the record, it is rare to stumble upon an artist that actually sounds better live than the produced cd itself. Alicia Keys is soulful, experimental, and a musician. This woman is hyped, but can live up to all the buzz once she opens her mouth and her fingers hit the keys. On "Unplugged" the familiar hits are there, all rearranged and have a new freshness to them, as she puts twists and turns in the songs that almost make them feel as new songs. Her voice is as raw and soulful as ever and the guests on the cd only compliment her and at times just make us see, why she is where she is at today. Her talent is limitless. This "Unplugged" album puts to shame those artists out right now who would never be able to step up to the plate, stripped off the equipment that makes them "talented", it only adds to the true legendary iconic performers who have taken the challenge and performed on MTV Unplugged. This album will not disappoint, Get yours now!
