Free Music Notes for Songs in A MinorFree Music Review: "A' Minor" miracle? It majorly is...... Hit: 5 StarsThis is the debut that made a legend out of a young, classically trained pianist, by the name of Alicia Keys. It was the song "Fallin'" (from this album) that established her as the brilliant, musical genius that she is, to the general public. I have heard that song on a variety of formats of radio stations (R&B, soft pop, adult contemporary). This is just a representation of her accessibility and cross-over appeal as an artist. Of course, Alicia is far from a one hit wonder. That is made evident in "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore" (her interpretation of the song written by Prince, as an ode to love lost) and "A Woman's Worth" (where she lays the groundwork for relationships and how it is about "give" and take").
It is Keys' combination of musical interpretation, prolific lyrical ability, soulful voice and vast range of influences (who include Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin, among others), that give her the staying power as an entertainer. The three songs mentioned above are just the tip of the iceberg. You need to listen to the ENTIRE album to really get the full experience....I highly reccomend this CD.
Free Music Review: if i knew how to change the star thingy i would make it 4 stars... Hit: 5 StarsWell upon listening to some of the tracks, i was blown away and immediately gave this album a 5 star rating...but after purchasing this album, i can honestly say i was a little let down. I thought that every track would have the stunning vocals and music. But to my dismay, that did not happen. Altough her musical ability and potential is reached in songs such as Fallin, A woman's worth, Butterflies, and Troubles, A good part of her album is a little short of being excellent. although..there are flaws, i would still recommend a buy for hrdcore R&B listeners and maybe downloads for those who like her but are not totally convinced.
Free Music Review: The Classics Are Coming Back Hit: 5 StarsThe moment I heard "Fallin'" on Oprah, she put me in a trance. Never did I hear so many people sing that song. Never did I hear so much buzz about how good she was. The only thing that I kept hearing about her was how beautiful she was. Well, she has the brains and the talent to back those looks up. She'll be in the music industry for a long time to come, and "Fallin'" cemented her place in it. That song was meant for someone older than her years, but I could be wrong.
In a debut album, the artist tries their hand at being versatile; they, as well as the producers (she had a hand in all of it, I heard) pick out what they like, and good enough to put on an album so it could sell. I think she did really well.
I have to admit that in this debut, with all the "versatility", I couldn't make her out. We all have different sides to each of us, so she took her risks. Some panned out really well: "Fallin'" will always come first when I think of this album, "A Woman's Worth", "Troubles", "Rock Wit U", "Goodbye", and "The Life". Some of the other tracks were like a "take it or leave it" kind of thing.
I have to admit it, because I can't say that it showed signs of me appreciating my parents' music more or not: they actually loved this album, telling me that I got a hold of a classic. After listening to this multiple times, it reminded me of the music that my parents listened to in their day, and I'm finding out that I like their music more than the music today (in some respects, not all). She is a breath of fresh air, and I'm glad that she bridged the gap, so to speak. Although there are plenty of naysayers, I can definitely see why she won those Grammys. Good work, Alicia!
Free Music Review: Hell Nawl Hit: 3 StarsUh Uh no! I got this album because I was going through a thang and the man I was with didn't understand my woman's worth. Well actually I didn't understand he wasn't a man just a buster. But back to the subject at hand. Besides the three songs that got the most radio play I can't listen to this tripe. I'm sorry Alicia Keys lovers! When the song A woman's worth stops playing I ramble for my remote control or I jump up as fast as I can to turn off the cd player so I won't have to hear that damn song "Jane Doe" my initial thought when I heard that song was wait a minute I thought she was supposed to be smart. Why the hell is she singing this. But now that I've heard more music from her I see she was just another one of America's overated artist. I can't listen to this album in it's entirety just those three songs I mentioned above.
Free Music Review: Neutralized Album Hit: 3 StarsThere are some fun moments in this album, and there are the lows. Alicia Keys first album is less better than the second, but still the songs get justice from her powerful voice.
