Free Music Notes for Songs in a MinorFree Music Review: Doesn't get any better than THIS!!! Hit: 5 Stars
The beautiful heart-wrenching ballad"Goodbye"ALONE,makes this album worth its' weight in DIAMONDS'!!!The lyrics have the ability to hurl you backwards'through TIME,to the exact moment of your very FIRST heartbreak!! Alicia does,an UNSURPASSED job of making you see(and FEEL)this through the eyes'of a(young innocent) individual who's encountered this(DISCONCERTING)life, experience for the FIRST time!!!Nostalgic lyrics such as"Is THIS the END?!? Are you SURE??How should you KNOW when you've NEVER been"here"BEFORE?!?(followed by)It's so HARD to just LET GO,and this is the one and ONLY,love I've EVER known!!!" I get a chill in my spine, when I note the confusion and hurt in Alicias' voice as she sings that line!! The first lines are very thought-provoking:"How do you LOVE someone that HURTS you oh so bad??With intentions"good"was all he EVER had..But how do I let go when I loved him for so LONG,and I've given him ALL that I COULD!!! Summed up with:"HOW do you find the WORDS to say...To say"Goodbye"..."Find,the words'to say"Goodbye"...."When your heart DON'T have the"HEART" to say...To say"Goodbye"!!!(other chilling lyrics'include:"Maybe love was a HOPELESS"crime",giving up what SEEMS your lifetime!!" "Was it something wrong that WE did?!?" "Or 'cause OTHERS infiltrated?!?" "What went wrong with something ONCE so good??!!?" Alicia sounds SO emotional and troubled with:"When it's been SO long!!" I can't leave out her brave confession:"I know NOW I was naive',never knew where this would lead"...(ANTI man-bashing warning)And,I'm NOT trying to take away...From the GOOD man that he IS(notice she didn't say"was")!!Alicia turns'it personal when she belts' out:"MY heart dont have the heart to say"Goodbye."Alicia does an amazing rendition of Princes"How Come You Don't Call Me"while"The Life"is a totally original tale of a young lady being mentally tormented trying to survive living in the "fast lane."Powerful lyrics(that an admitted former hustler/gang-member myself can identify with)here include:"Everyday I realize, that this might be the LAST day of my life!" "Slowly internally I'm DYING,pillow-casing wet from all my CRYING!" "Looking back,I've SEEN all the HORRORS,this madness makes me want to HIDE!"!" "Trying to get over." "I'm GONNA get over!" "When it rains,it POURS,isn't life worth MORE?!? "I don't even KNOW,what I'm hustling FOR!!" "There is NOTHING MORE,to be here for, take me AWAY,I can't live that life no more.." "Livng will ALWAYS be a struggle, looking for someone "TRUE"to love you.." "You gotta do whatcha' GOTTA do,JUST to make it through, all the HARD times that's gonna face you!!" "Walking the streets I find,I'm coming closer and CLOSER to losing my mind!!" "Gotta KEEP movin',movin' "Can YOU see what I'M seeing?!?" "This is MY life!!" "Jane Doe"touches on the underhanded ploys a lot of(conniving)women use to get the man they want, regardless of WHO gets hurt in the process.."Rock With You"is a nice"change-of-pace" upbeat track.. On"Mr Man" Alicia touches on "skanky"scandulous chicks who can't WAIT for their man to turn his back on them for a mere SECOND,so they can(shamelesly)scheme on getting"picked up"by some other dude!"BOY,did I know a chick JUST like that!!"The "Straight-to-the-point"simple message of"Fallen"is made over an excellent beat and turns out to be a modern day classic!! "Troubles"is a very PASSIONATE song with touching(and frightenly familiar)easy-to-relate-to lyrical content played to a haunting piano. The song starts out with a desperate and heart-felt prayer from Alicia:"Dear Lord can You take it away?!?This pain in my heart,it follows me by day,and at night it stalks me like the shadows on my wall." "OH MY GOODNESS!!"One line from this song that REALLY"hit home"with me was:"Continuous mistakes,I know i've made BEFORE!!" More notable and heart-felt lyrics incude:"WHY does it feel, that my MIND is constantly tryin'to pull me down?!?" "I can't seem to get AWAY!!" "Feel like the WORLD is closing on me!!" "Feel like my dreams, will NEVER come to me!" "How LONG will I feel so OUT-OF-PLACE?!?" I love the part of the song that sums the point up:"If you're troubled, you just gotta let it go,If you're WORRIED baby, you just gotta LET IT GO!!" "All your hustles aint for NOTHING!!" "You just gotta take it SLOW!!" "Don't you worry,no need to worry!!" "Never felt this way before" and "Butterflies"are two absolutely BEAUTIFUL songs that chronicle the way one feels when they've just fallen in love with someone.."Why do I feel so sad"is a song that deals with the pleasure and pain of this thing called"love." "Caged Bird"is a melancholy, touching and thoughtful song.BIG-UPS'to Alicia, for this MASTERPIECE of an album!!! I,reccomend this album as STRONGLY,as I recommend wearing WARM clothes in Michigan, after August,to EVERYONE,who appreciates touching/true-to-life ballads!!
Free Music Review: I LOVE This CD! Hit: 5 Stars
cI was a bit skeptical of Miss Keys talent when I downloaded "Fallin'" in July before it hit the big time...once it did i really like it and I also had "Butterflys" already so I decided to get the whole album, which I now love! Here is a track by track rundown of this for-sure grammy induced album.1. My Piano and I - This is just the intro where Alicia talks about how shes ready to make it big, and it starts off with the classical "Moonlit Sonata" in the backround, then switches to a hip hop version of it. 2. Girlfriend - This track is diff. then the rest of the album...its a hip hop track with the piano almost working as the bass. Its about Alicia being jealous of her boyfriends "Chick Friend", a pretty good trakc, would do well on the radio. 3. Why Don't You Call - This song is a lot more like "Fallin'" and really gives Alicia a chance to do some pretty powerful soulful jazz singing during some parts. Its very classic jazz/hip hop. 4. Fallin' - The first single which honestly at first I didn't think was gonna do that well but its a really awesome track with some funky vocals. Its very diff. then most stuff on ther adio so I think thats why it did so good. 5. Troubles - This song makes Alicia's voice sound a bit diff. and its got a chilled out vibe in the chorus kinda. Not my fave song but its a pretty good one. 6.Rock Wit U - I reall don't like this song v. much. The music is sorta cool at the beginning cuz its all 70's "Trance" type stuff but the actual song is stupid. If I had to pick a least fave song this would be it. 7.A Womans Worth - I'm not a big fan of this track either, its ok but Miss Keys voice gets a bit annoying during some parts. Its got a very sultry tone to it which is kinda cool but its a bit repetitive. 8.Jane Doe - This is one of my faves on the cd, it reminds me of SugarJones (If u know who they are) "I Got U"...Its got a really fun guitar/vocal effects thing in the back. Basically its about the singer saying they're gonna keep their man so no other "Jane Doe" can take him. 9.Goodbye - I really like this track, its really sad and can be applied to a lot of things. The chorus line is good "When your heart doesn't have the heart to say goodbye." pretty much sums up the song...its about leaving a bad relationship that you've had for a long time. 10.The Life - This is a cool track about "This Is The Life" and no its not talking about sipping champagne on a cruise ship, its about inner city life sorta and realizing your life. I like the instrument the use in the chorus in the back. Its got a feeling to it like "Troubles" but it sounds like it could be from a movie track...I like this song. 11.Mr. Man - My FAVEEEE song on the whole CD Alicia enlists the help of Jimmy Cozier I believe. Its got a latin feeling to it that u can just think of a great dance routine to, I totalllly love this track cuz the vocals are great, the music is cool and its got a really different sound. Alicia and Jimmy sound great together, its absically about two ppls flirting at a bar and the guy wondering if the girl is free. 12.Never Felt This Way - This little interlude is actually part of a song by Brian McKnight and I hafta say Alicia does an amazing job it. Her voice is really showcased here, and the song molds perfectly into the next track. 13. Butterfly - This was my first fave alicia keys song. Its got a really nice backing guitar part, and her voice sounds amazing during one part "You and I, are destiny..." etc. I really like this one, cuz its got a cool sound to it. 14.Why Do I Feel So Sad - This is a good song, with a very simple backing track...its not as complex as some songs, and its a nice one. The chorus is really cool, cuz the vocals sound good in this one. 15. Caged Bird - This is my 2nd fave song for a few reasons. Its really sad and a good (so-called) last track that really sounds good. The piano in the backround is very haunting, and the whole song reminds me of a movie I loved as a kid "Follow That Bird"...plus the song can be applied to so many situations its great. 16. Loving You - This is a cool jazzy mo-town style track thats actually a bonus on the album. THe more you listen to it it'll get stuck in your head, and its got a really old skool vibe to it.
Free Music Review: This Woman's Worth the #1 Billboard Album Hit: 5 Stars
What makes Alicia Keys so special? Other than she has an amazing talent for singing, she writes all of her songs and also co. produced all of them!!! It was about a year ago when I heard Aaliyah’s new song “Try Again” on MTV and immediately turned a Pop music lover into a total R&B fiend. To tell you the truth I hate Pop music know. Their records are so deceiving. The first song to kick off the album, like Britney Spears’s “Baby One More Time” or even *Nsync’s “Bye, Bye, Bye” where great songs but once you bought the album and the rest [stunk]. That’s the thing with R&B most of the songs are good. I wouldn’t exactly call this album R&B, its more soulful and gospel in a way but it is nothing other than amazing. She already has got the album to #1 on the Billboard Charts. This is my review of the songs on this album. 1-5 stars, 5 being the best.1. Piano & I - ** It really isn’t a song. It Alicia talking while she is playing the piano, which is another thing she is very talented at doing. 2. Girlfriend - *** It has a really good beat and the vocals are amazing. The only thing I don’t like about this song is the lyrics, which are a little plain and trivial. 3. How Come You Don’t Call Me - **** Originally a Price song, which is one of the only songs she didn’t write, but it is a awesome song. I love the lyrics and the beat. Her voice reminds me of one of Mariah Carey’s earlier hits. 4. Fallin’ - ***** The song that made me what to buy this album. It has a real meaning and has a gripping tune, that gets you hooked to this album. 5. Troubles - *** Another great song from this album. It is one of the slower songs on the CD but is very meaningful and has a great beat. 6. Rock Wit U - **** It is a long song but has an intro. of 1 minute and 44 seconds! It has good lyrics and like all the rest of the songs on the album, a really great beat. Alicia sounds so good in this song! 7. A Woman’s Worth - ***** One of me favorites on this album. Just Great….I guarantee you will LOVE it! 8. Jane Doe - ***** It you like the song Fallin’ you will adore this song. It has a great chorus. Alicia sounds so awesome in to chorus. Another GREAT song! 9. Goodbye – ****1/2 The true slow song on the album. Almost a perfect song, but not quite there. It is still smooth and great. 10. The Life - *** Dope, but not the best song on the album. 11. Mr. Man - In my opinion, this is the best song on the album. A duet with Jimmy Cozier. GREAT!!!! My God…..you will truly love this. This is the song that should make you buy this album. 12. Never Felt This Way - ***** Piano by Alicia Keys. Another slow song that is great. Im not kidding there isn’t one bad song on this CD! The best slow song on songs in A minor. Only 2 min. long. A great Interlude. 13. Butterflyz - *** Another slow song. Not the best song, but has some buetiful piano playing by Alicia Keys. 14. Why - **** Good song. I love the beat and the lyrics. Another great hit by Ms. Keys 15. Caged Bird - *** A great Outro. for a CD. Very meaningful and touching. 16. Bonus Track - ***** This is a great song for the last song on the Best Album of the Year. 5 stars! AWESOME…you will love it! This is one of the best albums in a long time. Anyone that like music will live this CD. I have bought a lot of CDs in the past and they don’t even compare to this one. Can’t wait for the next CD Alicia. Hope this helped you.
Free Music Review: Review Of Songs In A Minor Hit: 5 Stars
...Piano And I- A very nice beginning to the album which reveals her roots in classical music.7/10Girlfriend- Never have thought much of this song just because there seems to be no point to it since the whole song is just about a jealous girlfriend who can't express why she feels that way. 5/10 How Come You Don't Call Me- A very sweet song about a woman wondering why a past lover doesn't call her anymore and also reflecting on how much she loved the person and letting out her grief about them not being around anymore. 7/10 Fallen- Her first hit. The song is all about the unconditional love you have for a person and how that love allows you to take a lot of abuse [hopefully not to much though] and keep falling in love with the person all over again when they act nice again. 10/10 Troubles- This song is all about being strong through your trials and letting go of your worries as much as you can. 10/10 Rock Wit You- The hit that never was. I love this song. Once again about the unconditional love that will allow you to be with a person even when they screw up or are going through hard times mentally, finacially, whatever. 10/10 A Womans Worth- This was her second hit. It is a great song about a man and woman who are in love appreciating what one another is able to do for them. Whatever that may be. I was turned off a bit though by some of the demands in the first verse such as pearls and trips around the world but you know whatever it's only a little thing. The song is 10/10. Jane Doe- I will just say that its a great song about trusting your own judgement about someone. Mainly a girl and her boyfriend who may or may not be cheating. 10/10 Goodbye- Very interesting how she chose for this song to be next and I think there is a reason for it. You see Jane Doe is about what I said above. But goodbye is the acceptance that comes finally when you realize someone isn't good for you. I think she was sending a definite message with this to girls or even guys who allow themselves to be abused and taken advantage of. By letting them know that it isn't right. 10/10 The Life- Definitely could have been a hit. It's a great song about doing whatever you have to do to survive. 10/10 Mr. Man- Great song..not a lot to describe...its very shallow but very good. 10/10 Never Felt This Way- Great interlude to Butterflies. 10/10 Butterflies- Probably my favorite song on the record. It's a very happy and yet haunting song about telling someone you love how special and loved they make you feel. 10/10 Why Do I Feel So Sad- As said in the title this song is a sad song about the pain of change for the worse and the longing for things to go back to the way they use to be when everything was happy. Kind of a downer coming after Butterflies but in the end the album ends on a very happy note. This song is a 10/10 though. Caged Bird- Beautiful and sad. The title describes the song perfectly. 10/10 Lovin'You- Great end to the album. The song is very much like butterflies only it has a totally different mood..it is much more cheerful. 10/10 I would have to say that she deserved every single grammy that she got for this album [Best New Artist, Best R&B Female Vocalist, Best R&B Album, Best R&B Song [Fallin'] And also Song Of The Year [Fallin'] And to think that she is going to keep getting better and better...there will be a lot to look forward to from her for years and years to come. Hope You Buy It.
Free Music Review: Excellent debut for Alicia Keys and her inviting sound. Hit: 5 Stars
With all the paint-by-numbers R&B and overproduced soul music out there, this album is definitely an inviting surprise. 'Songs in A Minor', which Alicia Keys wrote and produced, blends diverse influences, including R&B, hip-hop, classical, and jazz, and seems to have a clear-headed grip on each individual form all at once. I have to say there have been a lot of artists making stellar debuts in the sorority of R&B and alt-soul, the most interesting and promising that come to mind being Jill Scott and Amel Larrieaux, but this young woman, who is barely in her twenties, is going to be a major contestant among them. The album has a very slow, mellow vibe to it, with occasional punches of energy, like on the funky 'Rock Wit U', which features Isaac Hayes' wah-wah Fender Rhodes piano interjections. The opener 'Girlfriend' which was co-produced by Jermaine Dupri kicks the album off to a laid-back and innocent vibe, and the following song, a remake of one of Prince's classic piano-based slow jams 'How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore?', probably ranks among the absolute BEST remakes EVER. But, while those first songs project a youthful earnestness, the rest of the album showcases a singer who is extremely worldly and wise beyond her years. Take the first single 'Fallin' for example. It features a haunting piano and strings arrangement, that builds the number from soft yearning to tearful and desperate longing. Then you have 'Troubles', which I think is definitely one of this album's pinaccles, a rainy day song all the way from the husky spoken word intro, 'A Woman's Worth' which is a bluesy and excellently-pieced together number that every man should listen to and learn from, and 'Goodbye', a tearful song filled with more heartache than you'd think an artist could muster. She performs an excellent rendition of Brian McKnight's 'Never Felt this Way' which leads into one of the album's best numbers 'Butterflyz'. I can't really find the words to describe this song, except that her piano work is so impressive and accomplished, and that it WILL provoke a chill, a smile, a tear, something, anything, when you hear it. It ends rather abruptly and is something of an enigma, but you WILL feel it. 'Caged Bird' is very similar to to 'Butterflyz' in that it is something of an enigma. It is brief, but there is something special about it. The closing number 'Lovin' U' is very different from the rest of the album in mood and sound, but still seems consistent. It is very Gospel-flavored and shows something of an Aretha Franklin influence in Alicia with its shoop harmonies and soulful, spirited vocals. This is the type of music where you could relax with your lover, sit alone on a rainy day, cruise downtown in early morning hours, do the dishes, or cook dinner. It works on many levels. With her stunningly beautiful voice and her hauntingly emotive piano playing, Alicia has carved out a nice sound for herself that should guarantee her longevity in music as long as she expands on it while still keeping a consistent aura and feel. I agree with all the previous reviews that said this was the best R&B album of 2001 so far. This beautiful young lady has talent, style, and skill to spare. An album for sunny, chilly days and moody, melancholy evenings.
