Free Music Review: Real Soul Music!! Hit: 5 Stars
Imagine this album without any hype whatsoever, well this is what I got, Alicia Keys - at the moment - is virtually unknown in the UK, but it's the US hype that hit me over here. I picked up the album not knowing what to expect, and what I got was a plethera of soulful classics.Everything on this album screams class, the brilliant intro, which brings in the heavy bassline over the classical piano peice, the amazing "Fallin'" where Alicia Keys shows off her amazing and strong vocals. Other tracks which really stand out are the bluesy "Troubles" and "A Womens Worth" where Alicia shows she is in a league of her own. "Butterlyz" is one of the best ballads I have heard, with a smooth piano backdrop, and the sample tracks of "The Life" (Curtis Mayfield - Give Me Your Love"), Girlfriend (ODB - Brooklyn Zoo), Rock Wit U (Shaft) and the cover of Princes "How Come You Don't Call Me" seem to fit perfectly with Alicia's soulful vocal performance. Songs In A Minor shows Alicia as an original and no doubt the best Female artist I have heard. I'm not a fan of Aaliyah, Destiny's child etc... Alicia shows that she can take her music much much deeper and much further. It's really a shame about the amount of hype, because people expect the impossible. Songs In A Minor is one of the best album I have, and I have over 1000! A true masterpiece
Free Music Review: Speechless with Tears - UPDATED at bottom Hit: 5 Stars
I am at a loss of what to write, because anything I say will not compare to the intense luring of Alicia's lyrics and music. It's hypnotic, intense and something that can only be understood as you listen to this artist for yourself. As I listened to "Butterflyz", I began to cry out of sheer beauty of the music and lyrics. On AliciaKeys.com, her biography compares her to Roberta Flack, Prince, and many others...I disagree! This woman is in a class all her own! Her classical training, sultry vocals and deep soul wisdom are captured in every song. All of which, Alicia wrote - produced and sings! She may be 20, but she has clearly lived many lifetimes beyond her age.I've received a few messages from some disagreeing with my opinion of this artist. I have no problem with them not sharing my opinion. We all have different tastes. For me, I absolutely fell in love with this CD. Until I bought the CD, I had only heard the song, "Fallin'" a few times on the radio. Since I bought this CD, I have learned a great deal more about the Alicia Keys. Ironically, I am tired of "Fallin'" and it's one of the songs I now care for least on the CD. Make no mistake, I still rate this CD with 5 stars for all of the reasons I previously stated. If you don't like this CD, that's your decision to make. For me, I love POP, R&B, and this is a great mix for my taste in music.
Free Music Review: Tevis R. Brown III-Alicia is Hot and off to a great Start Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is simply irresistible it goes from love to sorrow and on it's way to happiness. When you hear Alicia's Excellent Voice you will understand what I'm talking about. Homegirl is with J records and she is about to blow up. She's with a great record label because my favorite singer Monica and her are Label mates. But back to Alicia, she is talented and she wrote and produced all of the songs on this CD. When I heard the first single Fallin' I was swept off of my feet and I ammediatly had to call BET's 106 & Park and vote her for the countdown and she made the Number 1 spot over 4 times thanx to me and many other fans. She has songs on this CD that people who've been in relationships can relate to. You can relax to this album all of the songs are hot. This CD tells me that Alicia Keys will be around for centuries to come. So I encourage you to go out and buy this CD it is truly worth the money that you spend. You will not be unsatisfied. Gauranteed. I can't wait until Alicia Keys comes in concert she will be on FIRE!! But seriously my favorite songs on the CD are Girlfriend, Fallin', Troubles, How come you don't call me, A Womans Worth, Rock Wit you, Mr. Mann with Jimmy Cozier, and Goodbye. Put it like this the whole CD is Good. Peaceout. And Go out and buy Alicia Keys Songs in A Minor. Hey if you don't it's your lost. I have my copy and I'm happy. You could be to.
Free Music Review: An Honest Review From A Metalhead Hit: 5 Stars
Despite my musical tastes being held strongly in the heavier genres - i.e. death metal, grindcore, etc. - I must give respect where it is due. Alicia Keys's 'Songs in A Minor' is, quite frankly, one of the best pieces of recorded music of the past decade. I myself was VERY reluctant to give this a listen. I assume it would be more of the worthless pop music. How wrong I was. Some people say that this is overrated. I seriously don't believe that. 'Songs in A Minor' and Necrosphere's 'Revived' - I am not making a musical comparison - are both albums that were severly hyped, but they lived up to the hype and more. Alicia Keys has an incredible voice, not to metion true musical talent. She is deffinitely one of the greatest song writers of the past decade. Unlike most artists in her field (not naming any names) their music and lyrics were written for them, not by them as Mrs. Keys has done. From the moment I heard "Fallin" I was hooked. With its catchy chorus and wonderful lyrics, it is easily the album's best song. "How Come You Don't Call Me" is another song that shows her true brillience as a soul / blues artist. Also, it is vocally her strongest track. With an amazing mix of old school soul and new school R & B, Alicia Keys has definitely done an amazing job with this release. This album is definitive and I thank it for opening my eyes to other genres.
