Free Music Review: Alicia Keys- A True Artist Hit: 5 Stars
To hear previous reviewers refer to Alicia Keys as unoriginal and not talented is appalling. Are you incapable of identifying real music when you hear it? The CD "Songs In A Minor" is what every CD should be. When you can listen to every single track without fighting the urge to jump to the next song, you know it's quality. I wouldn't exactly refer to a pianist/song-writer/producer/singer as not talented. I think people are having a hard time accepting the fact that a new artist is getting so much positive recognition... Her songs come from the heart and soul. A few highlights on the CD include the hip-hop dance anthem- girlfriend, followed by an amazing remake of Prince's "how come you don't call me?" Also, the personal acoustic "caged bird" makes you understand Alicia's struggle to get to the top. I also enjoy relating to "never felt this way", and the wonderful transition into the sensual "Butterflyz". Of course, I love every track so.... :oD...To many on-lookers, it may have looked like an overnight thing, but it took long years of hard work and dedication. Thanks for taking the time to read all of this, and hopefully people will stop trying to bring down a budding sensation, and pick her up ( along with picking yourselves up) by buying the CD today! Peace.
Free Music Review: Alicia Keys Has A Talent That is Unsurpassable Hit: 5 Stars
Well Today 6/26/01 i recieved My Copy of "Songs In A Minor" In the mail and let me say i am thrilled that i got it. Alicia has an amazing voice and knows exactly how to use it. She is a very talented Writer and all the songs on the cd are very good.Besides Miss. Keys there are songs written by Prince, Brian Mcknight, and many others. The song Prince wrote is called "How Come You Don't Call Me" and it is an excelent song and Alicia sings it with such passion and conviction that you belive she is really singer to a lover who isn't calling. All the songs are this powerful. Alicia's vocals are amazing on many levels. She has the ability to change the mood by using her voice and also to show her feelings with her voice. The Song "Rock Wit U" is a more instrument based song and it is truly amazing. The vocals in it are good but nothign compared to the instruments. The Song "Fallin'" is a song that holds a deep meaning and can be true about anyone's realationship. Everyone should purcahse this cd because it is an emotional journey through Alicia's own personnel experence but is general enough to for anyone to realate. This is a must have for music fans and anyone who likes musicians who use the piano throughout their cd's (since the piano is a major player on this one) BUY THE CD!!!!!
Free Music Review: WOW! AMAZING Debut from Alicia Keys Hit: 5 Stars
I've heard A LOT of REALLY GOOD debut albums from my other current favorite female solo artists: Mariah Carey, Toni Braxton, and Christina Aguilera. But after listening to ALL the songs from this debut and seeing her AMAZING MTV VMA performance of "Fallin'" from Ms. Alicia Keys, I have ONLY one thing to say that I NEVER thought I would: This is the BEST DEBUT album of the group. This 20-year old has some REAL musical talents. She contributed to producing and writing EVERY song. She plays the piano with such grace. And her singing voice has the such SOUL and RANGE, like Christina Aguilera's, its CLEAR to see that BOTH of these new young singers will STILL be around 10 years from now. Alicia has ALREADY shown the AMAZING POTENTIAL to "have it all". Every song on this album is GOOD in their OWN way.... Some real emotional and heartfelt songs and lyrics. Unlike those 3 other debuts of the artist above, there really is NOTHING negative I can say about this album. Like Mariah, Toni, and Christina, Alicia should definitely win the 2002 Best New Artist Grammy. But I WILL PREDICT the following: like Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys will ALSO WIN the 2002 Album of the Year Grammy. This CD is THAT GOOD!! BUY "Songs In A Minor" by Alicia Keys. We have a SUPERSTAR musical artist in the making.....
Free Music Review: I've seen the future and it will be... Hit: 5 Stars
It's such a relief to hear a musician and not one of the disposable pop divas that are everywhere. I give this album 5 stars for the promise of Alicia's talent. I can't wait for her to break free from the executive producers and really just lay it down. I can't wait for her "Innervisions" and "Talking Book" level work which I think she has in her. Ironic that the last track is "caged bird."I do love this album although some of the trendy production stuff distracts me from her and her playing/singing. I can see her get a killer band and just cut loose. Like the bands that Prince puts together. I saw her with a band on Jay Leno and it was tight! Keep it goin' girl. Or even do the one-woman-band thing. Straight from the heart. Don't get me wrong, I love the music. I just want more of the real goods. I love her vocal arrangements and her melodies. Her voice is the real deal, so much truth and emotion. She lives the words she sings. Makes Christina and the like sound like posers and squaking birds. I love how she stretches out with jazz flavors too, so much deep soul. Ah, it's like a big deep breath of fresh air. Alicia, thanks for sharing your gifts. Stay true to your talent. I congratulate you at the beginning of a great future. I can't wait to listen to it all.
