Free Music Notes for Songs in a MinorFree Music Review: WOW!!! This is incredible! Hit: 5 Stars
I have to admit, I've been highly anticipating the debut of Alicia Keys ever since I read several articles about her talent and observered her spot on the wish list of several of my favorite reviewers. Well, this cd is stunning! I am absolutely amazed at Keys's maturity and talent featured on this collection. Her harmonies and range send chills down my spine. It is very clear why Ms. Keys was the first artist on Mr. Clive Davis's new label, J records: She is incredible. It is hard to believe that this is only her debut and that she herself is only 19 years old. I especially appreciate the way she writes and helps produce nearly every song on this cd, she does a fantastic job!! Being a pianist myself, I love the presence of her playing on each track. Each track is so different from each other, but each is of such high caliber. The emotion and sincerity in her voice is almost tangible. I really enjoy the tracks "Fallin'"(her voice at its free-flowing best), "Rock wit you"(great production!!), and "goodbye"(so heart-wrenching and easy to relate to. I'm sure many others have been in this position), but based on the quality of this cd, I am sure that my favorites will fluctuate frequently. PLEASE! get this cd! It is SO worth it!
Free Music Review: A (future) classic soulful gem. Hit: 5 Stars
"Songs In A Minor" was the most hyped release of 2001 by the well-known and extremely talented Ms. Alicia Keys. Alicia posseses all the talented needed to have a long lasting career in r&b. A song writer, pianist, producer, and soul singer. Once you see past the hype, there is much beautiful soul music there. She isn't like the fake pop/r&b of today (Ashanti?), but has a beautiful classy sound. Alicia has an excellent debut release on her hands with "Songs In A Minor". Back to the songs. The best one here is still "Fallin". Yeah, I know it was her first release, but it's been the best song (I've heard) on the radio so far since 2001. It has an enchanting haunting background and her velevety voice is incredible. My second fav is "Why Do I Feel So Sad" which is a mood every one experiences time to time. Her tracks capture emotions, only one of the reasons that make them so splendid. "Troubles" is smooth, beautiful and also rather haunting. Her cover of Prince's track ("How Come You Don't Call Me") is extremely passionetly sung. Another one of the highlights. Others include "Butterflyz", "Rock Wit U", "A Woman's Worth", "Goodbye" and "The Life". Alicia has much talent and I predict she will outlive (in music) Ashanti, Christina Milian, & other so-called artists.
Free Music Review: A staple for any self-respecting CD collection Hit: 5 Stars
When I bought this CD less than a year ago, Alicia Keys was virtually unheard of. Now she's a 5-time Grammy Award winner who is embarking on a world tour. This success is testament to the huge talent of an artist who isn't even old enough to drink in the US.I bought this album purely on the strength of "Fallin'", a song that had yet to be released in Ireland but was receving extensive airplay on MTV UK & Ireland. On its first play, I was immediately struck by the strength of each and every track on the album- there isn't a bad song on it. From the uptempo, slightly hip-hop sound of "Girlfriend" to the mournful tones of "Fallin'", this album is definitely a keeper. Songs such as "Troubles" and "Rock Wit U" show that Keys is as talented a musician and arranger as she is a lyricist. In an album stuffed full of outstanding songs, two tracks really shine in terms of accomplishment, and they are "A Woman's Worth" and "Mr. Man". The former is guaranteed to have your head nodding along in time with its strong bass line and the latter is simply a beautifully arranged piece of music, where the voices complement rather than compete with the tune itself. Brilliant stuff altogether.
Free Music Review: Beautiful arrangement and soul-gripping vocals Hit: 5 Stars
SONGS IN A MINOR comes as a soothing aphrodisiac to the boisterous scene in R&B and marks the debut of a talent in the making. Alicia Keys packs the wails and heartfelt croonings to suit the melancholic blues in most of her tracks - but most prominent of all, her deft arrangement in the tracks is one that should be credited. FALLING, the first single from her sophomore album moans about the pain and agony in love; HOW COME U DON"T CALL ME ANYMORE should be a judicious tribute to Prince with her controlled singing - and I especially like coherent tracks like NEVER FELT THIS WAY, BUTTERFLYZ and WHY DO I FEEL SO SAD which is pure heartrendering blues with ethereal music arrangement of piano, strings and guitar. A WOMAN'S WORTH, her piece on recognizing woman's strength and GIRLFRIEND are also worth your time listening to. It is astounding how Alicia Keys can be so affecting with quiet smooth flowing piano tunes amongst a deluge of R&B tracks with the heavy beats and chanting tunes flooding the market now. SONGS IN A MINOR is for those sentimental at hearts - and with her powerful sedate vocals rivaling that of Aretha Franklin - she is in no minor category and is in fact the Next Big Thing in soulful rendition.
Free Music Review: Alicia Keys makes her debut in a minor.....but in a big way! Hit: 5 Stars
Alicia was on an old-school stevie wonder vibe when she made this cd. Her voice is some what like mariah carey while her playing brings thoughts of stevie wonder to mind. Make no mistake though that she has a style all of her own. Just from the first single 'fallin' you know that this girl is on something deep unlike a lot of other artists out now. She was supposed to drop 2 years ago but it looks like time definetly was worth it. Alicia brings a lot of things to the table(writing, playing/producing/ and singing) just like her labelmate Olivia. Anyone who sleeps on this cd will be missing out on a lot. Things like:Piano and 1(shows her classical skills a lil bit), Girlfriend, Fallin, Rock wit U, A womans worth(tight remake of this song), Jane Doe, Mr. Man, troubles, Why do I feel so bad, and Caged Bird Just these songs alone should pull you into what alicia is about. Just from some of the songs you can tell she knows how to break it down on the classical songs as well. Overall I would say Alicia came storng for her debeut cd. Anyone who likes soul,r+b music with a lot of instrumentals and accapella vocals should check this out. Old and young alicia is bringing people together with this one.
