Free Music Notes for Alison Krauss & Union Station - LiveFree Music Review: A GREAT LIVE ALBUM! THEY ARE TIGHT!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Okay, if you don't know AKUS, what planet are you from? This is country music for those of us who aren't crazy about the commercial drivel on the airways. It's bluegrass repackaged for the mainstream. I've been an AKUS fan since about '92--this album is probably going to be my favorite.
Live music is so much better. . .not everyone can pull it off on recordings. Alison Krause and her really superb friends have put together a fine set of recordings. The album is crisp, the mix is excellent, the band is incredibly tight. Better, I think, than their studio albums--it just has so much presence!
The only bad thing, is now I've gotta go see 'em in person and so far, they've managed to avoid the local venues. AKUS I'll buy the beer if you come to Reno!
Free Music Review: A Stranger Entered My Life! Hit: 5 Stars
I have always liked bluegrass, but never purchased anything of the genre. From time to time it has provided a pleasant backdrop to whatever I was doing. I must have heard some of her songs, but the name Allison Krauss meant nothing to me. Then last May she came into my life when she appeared on a Memorial Day concert on PBS and I was mesmerized. She has the voice of an angel as many have described. The words that come to my mind are ethereal and haunting. I made it a point to remember her name and got this CD soon after. Since then it has had close to the sole position of the CD of choice during my daily commute. Union Station is wonderful too and has some of the best songs on the CD, but Allison steals the show! Does she ever come to Los Angeles?
Free Music Review: What a beautiful voice! Hit: 5 Stars
I have ordered the live CD set but have not yet received it. However, what prompted me to order it was seeing Alison and Union Station live on television a couple of weeks ago, performing these very songs. Nothing can compare with music played by true music-lovers. Folk musicians tend to perform, not for the money, but for the sheer love of the music. Alison Krauss and Union Station are definitely in that category. I loved the movie "O, Brother Where Art Thou?" and Alison's "Down to the River to Pray" was my favorite of all the songs on the soundtrack; that was my very first introduction to her lovely voice. I simply cannot wait to receive my CD's! I hope to introduce their wonderful music to my family and friends.
Free Music Review: It's true! They really are this great live. Hit: 5 Stars
When the musicians are this great you really can get a great live CD and Alison & the boys really are this great. My only frustration with this band is that I can't take in a live show every week but now I have the next best thing. They keep the banter to a minimun (but what's included is typically charming) and let the music speak for itself.Alison has the voice of an angel and anyone who's seen them perform knows that she doesn't need a recording studio to help her out. This record captures that. Union Station is at the top of its game. Song selection, show pacing, it's all here. I'll be putting this one on the stereo, closing my eyes and pretending I'm at my local theater nightly, applauding like a maniac.
Free Music Review: Alison Krauss Is God's Mouthpiece Hit: 5 Stars
I must admit. I grew up with pop, soul, and rock and roll in the sixties and seventies, and despised everything that was country and bluegrass music. Then, I heard -- much by accident -- Alison Krauss singing an old sixties favorite, The Foundations "Baby, Now That I've Found You." I had never heard of Alison Krauss. I didn't even know that she was a bluegrass singer, but I was instantly mesmerized by her flawless, angelic voice! I immediately purchased this Live CD and I must say that it is one of my favorite discs.
Alison's beautiful voice nearly moves me to tears every time. Lacking the nasality of most bluegrass and country singers, Alison Krauss possesses one of the finest voices in music today.
