Free Music Review: Bluegrass you actually have to sit down & listen to...
Hit: 5 Stars

Usually I've got the bluegrass on the stereo when I'm doing something, it's wonderful high-energy music and it always makes the chores easier, but when I put on AKUS's latest I was stopped dead in my tracks - I actually sat down on the couch and listened. Haunting, just haunting. Bluegrass, yes, not in the traditional mold, they've taken it to a new plane. This is wonderful, captivating, smooth... Smooth? - Dare I say refined? Yes, I'll still throw traditional artists on the CD player, but at the end of the day I'll put Alison and the boys on the stereo!

Free Music Review: AKUS @ their Best
Hit: 5 Stars

I love this recording. The songs are a great selection. "New Favorite" Is a great title, So many great songs, Jerry Douglas on all 8 cylinders. The recording or mastering is a bit more aggressive than usual, but I just plain love this.
I recently bought my own brand new verson of this CD and was able to listen to it on my own CD player, incredible, this has to be one of the best recordings , period, that I have ever heard, It almost sounds like a SACD. It says the CD has a DSD editor , don't get that, they work on SACDs.

Free Music Review: Be the "Lucky One" and make this your New Favorite.
Hit: 5 Stars

If you enjoyed Alison's smooth, clear and heartfelt vocals on her previous album, "Forget About It" you'll love this one. The faster, more traditional numbers featuring the band and male vocals are in the "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" vein, which is not my favorite genre but well executed nevertheless. For me, there is enough of Alison's perfect vocalization on this album to give it a top rating. Best song is The Lucky One - toe tapping, yet soft and full of meaning between the lines with a memorable tune.

Free Music Review: Where the players went.
Hit: 5 Stars

Union Station has a style of it's own. They blend talented musicians with a new sound of music. Allison's voice rings clear as does the male voice (sorry name escapes me..but he sang soundtrack for Brother Where Art Thou). Allison doesn't play fiddle she plays violin in a bluegrass band. The dobro player is a monster. The resulting sound is hybrid of bluegrass, blues, jazz with a touch of pop. All of it with a subtle "down to earth" type of sound. Best recording since Supernatural by Santana. Well worth it.

Free Music Review: Stunning
Hit: 5 Stars

My first recollection of AKUS (their live album, on prominent rotation in BJ's Wholesale Club) had me thinking - "whoah, this is much better than the Dixie Chicks!".

Call it New Tradition, Newgrass, whatever, this AKUS album is a perfect blend of the old and the new. Allison sings as ever like an angel, Dan T. conveys true grit in his vocals, and Jerry's dobro has never sounded more soulful. It stands firmly in the past, and yet shimmers like a newly-cut diamond.
