Free Music Review: Alison runs quiet and runs deep
Hit: 5 Stars

Let me start by saying I have been an Alison fan for years now. I personally own all of her CDs. I have seen her in concert and catch her every chance I get.

I have to say this is the best CD she has ever made. I do not know any other artist that can put together a CD or a concert, for that matter, like Alison. Alison Krauss is soft spoken, shy, and obviously a very deep person. All of this comes thru in her music and this new CD.

The album starts out with a very thought provoacking song (Gravity) and follows it by another profound song (Restless).

When listening to this CD you can get a glimse into the soul of a band that is more concerned with their art than their pocket book. For AKUS, music is FIRST. Relaseable singles or "pop" country are not something they seem to concern themselves with. YOU GO ALISON!

The CD only gets better in my opion with some of the best traditional bluegrass playing you will ever hear.

Finally, Alison passes the torch to Ron Block and records an absolutely sublime song that he obvioulsy wrote from the heart. (A living prayer).

Don't walk, don't trott, don't skurry, RUN RUN RUN!!!! BUY this CD!

Free Music Review: Another Great Album from Five Shining Stars
Hit: 5 Stars

When I first purchased this album and popped it in my car stereo, I was mesmerized once again by Alison's vocals and violin work. "Restless" left me breathless with its vocal clarity. I was expecting a hard driving set of songs like "Boy Who wouldn't Hoe Corn" on the Live Album. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised by the song mix that put me in a quiet and reflective mood. My favorites turned out to be Alison's, Jerry's Dobro and Barry's backup on "Borderline" and Ron's "I Don't Have to Live This Way". Along with the deep meaning in "My Poor Old Heart" they sing volumes. Dan's vocals on "Pastures of Plenty" head west for some new sounds I much enjoyed hearing. And of course, "Crazy as Me" was an immediate favorite. Barry and Ron's contributions really stand out on this new album. Larry's Zen drumming is great. Quite refreshing after listening to pounding sounds and harsh lyrics in todays rock bands. Again, a trully energetic & collaborative work once again. This album grows on you in unexpected ways, a true blue favorite from the band that continues to redefine bluegrass tradition for our modern age. When the world treats me bad, I always find solace in the sounds of AKUS to bring me back to center.

Free Music Review: As Beautiful And Clean As You Can Get
Hit: 5 Stars

I don't write reviews in Amazon. Ever. I've had a closet affection for bluegrass for nearly two decades now, and I've never heard a more consistent, emotive voice in any genre than with Alison Krauss. Ever since I first heard her cover of the Beatles "I Will" (with Tony Furtado) on public radio, I've been completely hooked on her ability to evoke the necessary emotion in every song she sings. Her latest album is an outstanding example of tight musical arrangement, excellent production, and equally outstanding song choice. "Goodbye Is All We Have" is almost haunting, if it weren't for her bluebird sing-song voice. This lady sings it like she means it. While it is one of her more produced albums, I recommend it along with her previous works. For those who feel that her offerings have become formulaic, they should listen to the progression in style, song choice, and production quality, and decide for themselves if it isn't just an artist who has really become a star in her own right. This is not to take away from the rest of the band, who have "gelled" fantastically. I enthusiastically recommend this album to any AKUS fan.

Free Music Review: A delightful little treasure
Hit: 5 Stars

I found this disc to be a delightful surprise. I had listened to some of their earlier work and I did not take to it. However with this latest release I find myself really enjoying what the band is capable of. Ms.Krauss, is a very lovely creature to behold (imagine having to look at her for a whole tour, sheez!),I say this not to reduce her to a mere cover model. That would be both stupid and unfortunate. But the fact of her beauty is unavoidable, her presence on the front of the liner notes is quite a composition in itself. Upon listening to this disc, one discovers that the artist in question possesses a very warm and very natural voice. One which is very pleasant to listen to, The playing on this disc is nothing groundbreaking, but is however very good, the two combined make for a simply honest and enjoyable offering. One which I have found my self listening to quite often. All in all I am very pleased to have this disc in my collection. Who knows maybe the time is right for me to review those earlier releases.

Peace:

Free Music Review: A very stong effort
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a worthy follow up to the Live CD by Alison Krauss.
She changes direction a little, but keeps her bluegrass base.
The songs on here that get my attention are Restless, Unionhouse Ranch which is a killer instrumental. Jerry Douglas shows his expertise on the dobro and is in top form.
Pastures of plenty which is sung by Tan Tyminski, Doesnt have to be this way, and my personal favorite on the album, A living Prayer. At a time when country musicians use Rockabilly or even Rock and Roll music, it is nice to see authentic Blue Grass played by the top musicians in the business. Alison Krauss has a very pure voice that I find quite charming. This is not only a worthy follow up to her live album, but could possibly be the best CD of her career.
Allison has more Grammys than anyone in history and this CD will remind you why.

This CD has been nominated by CMT for one of the top 5 albums of the year and its well deserving of that.
