Free Music Review: Incredible Talent
Hit: 5 Stars

I have often thought that the reason music recorded 30 even 40 years ago remains so popular is because there is so little talent in the recording industry today. Alison Krauss and Union Station are the exception to my opinion. This CD contains some of the best (if not the best) talent in the entertainment industry. AKUS doesn't need to depend on computers or voice enhancements to make their music sound so incredible. They aren't flashy - they are just incredibly talented singers, songwriters and musicians. If you are tired of "corporate music" in the world of pop, rock and country, AKUS will be a breath of fresh air. Krauss especially shows her talent in song #15 - A Living Prayer. When you hear it you will know what I mean. I first heard AKUS when traveling in a U-Haul through the western part of Virginia and immediately fell in love with their sound - this CD is one of their best.

Free Music Review: Top Notch!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

My husband and I have recently become fans of AKUS. We saw them in concert (Norfolk, VA on 05.27.05). They were simply spectacular. What I have come to appreciate about EACH of the musicians is his/her OWN ability. That is what we like so much about this album. Each band member shows off their own personal talents throughout, while also complimenting each other in a seemingly effortless manner. These folks are truly second-to-none in their particular discipline(s).

***If you do get to see these folks in concert make sure you bring your binoculars/opera glasses. We missed out in not being able to see the hand/finger stylings of this fine group. One final note - the encore left many folks in tears because of the beautiful simplicity of the music. I held my breath during those pieces and finally let out an almost inaudible sigh of "wwwoooooooowwww."

Free Music Review: Quality Runs Both Ways
Hit: 5 Stars

This new cd by Alison and her band is uncommonly good. Here, the lady who brought bluegrass from outdoor festivals and small venues to big theaters and arenas, again, shines like the star she is. When the history of acoustic music is written let it be said that Alison bridged the gap to the 21st Century with music whose tones and styles go back to the Carter Family and earlier. Jerry Douglas highlights the instrumentation with the dobro, writing Unionhouse Branch, filling, introducing selected tunes. Dan, Ron, Barry, Larry do heavy lifting on their voices and instruments. New harmonies emerge, new voice bends, new rhythms come across. My favorite, Crazy As Me. Ron's new song, A Living Prayer is worth the price of the cd; Gravity, Restless--have twists and turns coming from writer Castleman. Even the pictures are delightful.

Free Music Review: AKUS featuring Jerry Douglas
Hit: 5 Stars

AKUS has gained such a greater dynamic presence with Jerry Douglas, that many of these cuts just wouldn't fly without him. Nothing conveys personal emotional upheaval like the skillful use of the dobro.
I sat in the darkened Beacon Theater in NYC 4/13/05 and heard these cuts for the first time. I really enjoyed the two hour performance. So, I went out and bought the CD. It is really well done, even though there's no substitute for being there.
I have been a fan for many years, and I find it hard to see how So Long, So Wrong could be topped. This comes close.
A Living Prayer was performed as an encore to the show. It was stunning. Alison, who seems to effortlessly move such a full tone, really reached down and made it happen here.

Alison is a true angel on this earth...

Free Music Review: Great songs and songwriting!
Hit: 5 Stars

Alison Krauss and Union Station have done it again!. This new release is definitely worth the wait!. The opener Gravity is just stunning, followed by Restless which is beautiful Alison and Dan's harmonies are breath taking. We also get to hear Dan's vocals on Rain Please Go Away and Pastures of Plenty. Borderline is one of my favorite tracks, and the banjo tinged My Poor Old Heart accented by Jerry Douglas's dobro!. I also like Goodbye is All We Have and Wouldn't Be So Bad. All the songs are winners here! A Living Prayer is just haunting! Alison's pristeen voice with just two guitars music just doesn't get any better. My admiration to Ron for writing such a great song! You won't be disappointed pick this one up! definitely a contender for the grammies and CMAs!.
