Free Music Notes for A Hundred Miles or More: A CollectionFree Music Review: I love the music of Alison Krauss Hit: 5 Stars
I really enjoyed listening to this CD from Alison Krauss. My favorite track on this CD is the duet "Missing You" with John Waite. This is a classic song from the 80's, and it is interesting to hear it sung by two people. "Down By The River to Pray" is a gospel song. It is from the movie O Brother Where Art Thou from a few years ago. This song is very uplifting and one of my favorites on this CD. Alison has such a clear strong tone to her voice on the track "You're Just A Country Boy." The piano playing on this track is very pretty. "Simple Love" is a track that celebrates the simple life of a working man. "Whiskey Lullaby" is a sad but very touching duet with Brad Paisley. This is a song about how alcohol can ruin a person's life. "How's The World Treating You" is a beautiful duet with James Taylor. I love the violin playing on this track. "Sawing on the Strings" is an upbeat track. I love the tempo and the banjo playing on this song very much. The music on this CD is very enjoyable and entertaining.

This CD is on my buy list. I saw a program with this title on GAC channel. It included some of the songs from the album and had comments by guest musicians and vocalists. As soon as the first notes sounded I knew I had to have this CD. As soon as Alison started singing I was ready to drive to Amazon to get it. The simplicity of Ms Krauss's music and artistry is beyond description. It seems like careful consideration was given to each note. Brad Paisly commented: "When I get to heaven and if the angels don't sing like Alison Krauss, I want to come back". I think that really says it all. I also happened to see, on "You Tube", a duet with Alison and another very commercially successful artist, who uses alot of flash in her shows and musically on her CD's. Union Station was the band. I was almost embarassed for the other performer when exposed without all the glitz. Alison Krauss is a national treasure.
Free Music Review: Angelic! Hit: 5 Stars
What a glorious, heavenly voice she has! And what songs she chooses to sing!
Alison Krauss has done it again, this time by releasing several songs--some previously released elsewhere and others never released--and creating an album of songs with a sound that is completely different from her other well-known work with Union Station and with Jerry Douglas.
Standouts on this collection include "Molly Ban," previously released on an album by The Chieftains; "How's the World Treating You?" previously released on "Livin' Lovin' Losin,'" (a collection of Louvin Brothers songs performed by various artists)--a duet with James Taylor that will rip your heart out and stomp on it; and "Get Me through December," previously unreleased and an achingly plaintive song if ever there was one.
Have fun!
Free Music Review: Another Jewel Hit: 5 Stars
AKUS has released another jewel. Whether you're a long time fan or just now discovering Alison and her very talented band, this album will impress you.
Alison's unique and enchanting voice is as captivating and perfectly pitched as ever. There has never been a vocalist like her and I doubt there ever will. Her vocals come across with an honesty that really draws the listener into the song.
Union Station's vocals are always a treat as well. They are the best in the business at their style of music, as their many Grammy's attest.
There is always a variety of musical styles in each CD the band releases and this is no exception. From ballads to bluegrass, from country to rock and roll, there is something you are sure to like in this collection.
Free Music Review: Permanent spot in our cd player Hit: 5 Stars
My mom bought this cd early this summer and it has become a permanent installment in our kitchen cd player. What a beautiful cd from Alison Krauss! She does duets with James Taylor (another of my fav artists), Brad Paisley, and John Waite and does them beautifully. The song "Jacob's Dream" is a hauntingly beautiful and sad song about two boys lost in the mountains; based on a true story. "Whiskey Lullaby" is the duet with Paisley...what a sad song! The incdredible guitar skills coupled with Alison Krauss' beautiful voice makes for an incredible song that sends chills down my spine every single time I hear it. "Missing You" is a fun, upbeat song Krauss did with John Waite. It comes to the top as one of my favorites.
My recommendation? Buy this cd! It is so totally worth it!
