Free Music Notes for A Hundred Miles or More: A CollectionFree Music Review: Angel's voice with range of material Hit: 5 Stars
I have to agree with another of the Alison fans ... "If the angels on my arrival in Heaven do not have a voice as good as Alison Krauss, I will be dissapointed." I have had this in my car CD, constantly playing for a week. "Whiskey Lullaby" which is an uncanny dark but exquisitely beautiful collaboration with Brad Paisley, is worth the price of the collection. I find myself surprised to be humming it during my day. Her title song, "100 miles or more" is genuinely Zen in its spirituality. I am considering having it played at my own (hopefully very distant) funeral. It was also a delight to revisit the sun-drenched scene of baptism from "Oh Brother" in "Down in the river to pray." Just get it and put it your own car. Bet you play it over for a week yourself.
Free Music Review: GREAT FEMALE SINGERS Hit: 5 Stars
I will be on my way to the Greyfox Bluegrass Festival tyomorrow morning. What am I going to listen to----AK "A Hundred Miles or More" There is NO ONE who can sing like Allison. Unfortunately, she won't be there. As it is a long ride from southern Pa to upstate NY, I will also listen to my other 2 favorite female singers---Sarah Mac & Abby Washburn. Fortunately, Abby will be there with both of her bands---Uncle Earl & the Sparrow Quartet. Abby will help me get over the fact that Allison will not be there.
The beauty of this album is it is a different Allison & I love it. The bluegrass Allison is wonderful, but I like variety, including her album with Robert Plant. It makes no difference, with a voice like hers ----its all great.
Free Music Review: Another Winner Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this CD when it was first released this spring. AKUS was coming in July and my wife and I wanted to be familiar with her newest songs before we saw the show.
The music is different from previous releases, but that's part of Alison's appeal. She could sing the phone book and make it sound good.
I can't say this is her best music, but my wife loves the entire CD and plays it nearly every day.
We sat front row center stage during the concert last month and were enthralled during the entire show. With no one between us and them, it almost felt like we were getting a private performance. Seeing them was at the top of our gotta see list. Not they are at the top of our gotta see again list.
Free Music Review: Sterling Krauss Collection Hit: 5 Stars
Although this may seem to be (and may have been intended to be) a motley collection of Alison Krauss' recording not released on any of her previous solo recordings or with Union Station, the strength of this release is the same strength of any of her recordings - her clear, clean, pure voice.
Whether it's duets with John Waite ("Missing You," and "Lay Down Beside Me"), Brad Paisley ("Whiskey Lullaby"), or James Taylor ("How's The World Treating You"), or solo efforts like "Molly Ban," "You Will Be My Ain True Love," and "Down To The River To Pray," Krauss' voice is beautiful and majestic. "A Hundred Miles or More" is worth buying because anything featuring Alison Krauss is worth having.
Free Music Review: Amazing! Hit: 5 Stars
A consummate musician and vocalist, Alison Krauss shines once again in this side track from AKUS. I can only mirror What Mr. Block said (on the special supporting this album), "Every time Alison records a CD you have to ask yourself can she get any better?" And the answer is yes.
I love hearing her angelic voice, so full of emotion, that never has to leave the melody to catch your heart. Although there are songs that I didn't absolutely love on this CD, there are others that so touched me (Jacobs Dream for instance) that I am able to still say this is a 5 star CD.
So far this has been a great Autumn for new music, and this CD is one not to miss!
