Free Music Review: Unbelievably powerful
Hit: 5 Stars

This band is simply amazing and the best you can get in this genre. Every song on here is well-constructed from the mind-blowing guitar solos from Oli Herbert to Phil's vocals which have an enormous range. The thing about this band is that they are indeed very heavy but in my opinion it seems like every song has a sad mood to it and it is that mood that makes you want to listen over and over again. A great example of realizing this is on "Whispers(I Hear Your)" on the bridge where the guitar plays really heavy and then puts in a soft chord. As for the songs, my review for each is as follows:

1. This Calling 10/10
-Love this song it can be interpreted in so many ways and you can also easily relate it to yourself. The heavy parts are amazing with how Phil's deep screaming harmonizes perfectly with the head-banging guitar.

2. Not Alone 10/10
-A really emotional track that makes you think about the power of love and how it can heal sadness.

3. It Dwells In Me 9/10
-I thought this song is very good like the others however I didn't really see it as a standout track as it represents a theme presented throughout the album.

4. We Stand 10/10
-I love this song. The way I intrepret it is that people with anger in their hearts are often the ones whom have to stand up to the world and be strong. Cool bridge on this song as well.

5. Whispers(I Hear Your) 10/10
-In my opinion, the verse in this song is the best heavy verse in this entire album especially on account of the anticipation of the riff to come in after the acoustic intro.

6. The Weak Willed 7/10
-Personally, I'm not into Death Metal. Although, I like the acoustic parts.

7.Six 10/10
-I first heard this song on Guitar Hero 2 which is where I started to listening to All That Remains(Thank god for that). The bridge on here is irresistable the song would be completely out of place without it. The intro/outro is astonishing.

8.Become The Catalyst 10/10
-Amazing song about having passion and getting rid of the fear of losing that passion hence;("Let the fire consume me.") The chorus is really catchy and my favorite part is "I pound the walls; I shake the cage!"

9.The Air That I Breathe 10/10
-I thought it was a little odd that the two songs about failure were right after one another, but this song is really catchy. Great melodic guitar solo in this one.

10. Empty Inside 10/10
-If you don't like this song something is wrong with you! Probably my most favorite track on the cd.

11. Indictment 10/10
-The beginning riff reminds me of something from Slayer, which is obviously a good thing. To that single riff, I head-bang I never have before. The bridge gives me goosebumps. I love the guitar solo because it is more of a crazy solo rather than a melodic-type solo which is what most of the album is like.

Free Music Review: One word: WOW
Hit: 5 Stars

Let's start off with something about me that will be vital to understanding my review, I listen to metal, ALL kinds of metal. I am a lot like the dude from Kung Fu who just walks the earth. I do the same with metal, I spend time just finding unique metal and unique bands but also enjoy the good ol' drag your brains through broken glass brutal metal. I listen to Opeth, Korpiklaanni, Pantera, Metallica, Chimaira, Killswitch Engage, In Flames, Diabolical Masquerade, Novembers Doom you name it
I have AT LEAST heard of it. But on to the cd. It has melody and screaming just like the last album and just like Killswitch Engage or Shadows Fall or any other Massachusetts metal band, grinding brutal guitars, soaring solos, and FAST double bass. SO what sets it apart from all of the others? VARIETY. It isn't even neccesarily variety or different songs, I mean there's no slow songs or anything, but variety in the instrumentation of ALL members of the band(including the vocalist) All of the members of the band prove on this album that they are capable of death, thrash, metalcore, black, hardcore, and really just about any kind of metal. They even throw the odd acoustic in there. Which isnt really strange for this kind of band but considering there is definate death and black metal influences on some of the songs. The vocalist Phil Labonte impressed me the most on this album though, the last album was great and he did an impressive job on it, but he did what needed to be done on this album, more clean singing (I can hear groans as people read this already) dont worry they haven't gone soft or anything, but the fact remains that ol' Phil has one of the best singing voices since Jesse David Leach of Killswitch Engage. But if you think they've gone soft listen to the Cannibal Corpse inspired "The Weak Willed" or the black metal influenced "Six" (remember INFLUENCED). They pull all of this off while still having a ton of melody. The drummer really picked it up on this album too. This Darkened Heart led me to believe this band was only capable of standard hardcore drumming but man he goes nuts on this one. He does quite a few blast beats even which really took me by surprise. And the guitarists as always in this band are the most top of the line in riffing and in solos, especially in solos. Whatever this case if you enjoy any kind of metal you will enjoy this album or at least find moments that are over the top. If you dont like your music heavy, well this is not for you. As far as my opinion goes: FREAKING MASTERPIECE!!!

Free Music Review: Crushing all doubt
Hit: 5 Stars

Most bands release their best album first. All That Remains on the other hand have improved dramticly on every album. The Fall Of Ideals is no exeption. Lets start from the first track The Calling. Hit play and you are floored by a tumultous double bass flurry. Right off the bat proving ATR arnt messing around this time. Phil Labonte has matured emensly on this album. He has the death growls, the solid clean range, the harde edged thrashy vocal and the I stole my throath from sweden or norway shriek. One reviewer called this an emo scream. No in the slightest. He needs to get out more. The songs are very well constructed. Adding the right amount beautiful twin guitar harmonies to contrast the almost thrash quality of agressive riffing and swedish melo death flair. The solos are brilliantly played and expertly placed. Here you listen to guitarists writing solos as opposed to just wailling. Are their clean vocals? absolutly. But they fit like a glove on most tunes. There are some where they dont IE Six. As opposed to the tunes they do fit. Not Alone,wispers..... The songs are stripped down and overall far more aggressive than this darkened heart, or behind silence and solitude. Now to compare this album to a Killswitch record other than the fact that Adam D worked his mastery behind the boards on this exellent piece of work is just way off base. This does not sound like a Killswitch record. You hear more maidenesque harmoines than In Flames on this. There are solos on every tune. The drumming is far more varied and complex. And to top it off Howard or Jesse are hard pressed to match the range of Phil Labonte. To say that because they added mellow vocals on every track they are going commercial is ludacris. I dont see three 2 ballads on the cd. IE Shadows Fall and The War Within. I dont see anyone saying Shadows Fall sold out for having melodic vocals on every track? Vocals can be melodic and not be clean. This cd is its own. No question about that. Those who try to lump them in with others like KSE and ShadowsFall simply dont have the metal vocabulary to find bands other than the two front runners. And please keep in mind ATR came about before KSE. When Phil was still in Shadows Fall. This album solidifies All That Remains rightful place with the best of the genre. Dont be dissillusioned by those who claim they went trendy or soft. They havent. This is a must have. So go get it.

Free Music Review: Listen up, just because I rate it 5S doesn't mean KsE is my favorite band
Hit: 5 Stars

So I listened to this CD earlier today. Before I got out of bed actually...we're on vacation, I picked it up yesterday. This disc not only has KsE, Caliban, etc. type lyrics. That's what you all seem to be degrading it with. Phil has range in both core and soft styles. Just listen to say...The Weak Willed, or Six, and you'll hear your core, death, black, minimal sing, and Six Feet Under type vocals all in one song. This cd has variety. Oli and Mike are exceptional guitarists and definitly rank up there with Donais and Bachand in todays metal scene. You may ask? What about Matt and Corey of Trivium? Sorry folks, Yes, they are great, but I do believe that Donais, Bachand, Herbet, and Martin all excede both of them. NO disrespect to Trivium...you are excellent musicians, all of you. You're definitely one of my favorite bands. But the four I just mentioned almost always are creating chaos with their fret hands. It's truly amazing. Anyway, This album is downright ferocious. Probably the best of 06 in my book so far, Awaiting Unearth, Trivium, and SF's major label debut. But this cd has it all. Breakdowns, Solos, Acoustics, Double Bass, Blast Beats, and the vocal styles I listed earlier. This is truly the first metal masterpiece of the year of 2006. Well, of what I've heard so far. Anyway, I did not come across a single boring part of this cd this morning. Why? The variety of course. They're not staying to the same riff over and over again, or the same speed. It's move, switch, switch, switch. Downright chaos...which is basically Metal in my book. Chaos is beautiful. And to think that a band can create it with music is amazing. I thank All That Remains for blessing us with this great album in the middle of all the mediocre metalcore releases out today. Yes, I like metacore, but palm mute after palm mute gets boring. Expand your narrow mind past the singing and learn to appreciate this album for what it truly is. Chaos. Beautiful Chaos

ALL THAT REMAINS - The Fall of Ideals
-
Herbet, Martin, and Lebonte are back with 2 new members (J Sagen - Bass // S Lucas - Drums) and their finest offering yet with `The Fall of Ideals'.

From start to finish this is an 11-song masterpiece, filled with powerful riffs, melodic choruses and blistering breakdowns... And though this album is truthfully nothing new in terms of Metal-core, it is leaps and bounds above the competition. Generally speaking the Killswitch-Style of heavy verses and overly melodic, sing-a-long chorus don't do it for me... Truth is, I just can't stop listening to this (And even singing along!) Phil Lebonte is one of metal's finest and easily most diverse vocalists, showcasing high pitched shrieks, low growls, hard-core screams, and a fantastic singing range. Herbert and Martin, as always, rock the guitars with fantastic song writing and face melting solos. New addition female bassist, Jeanne Sagen holds her own providing a nice backdrop for the insane guitar work of her counterparts. Other new comer Shannon Lucas is an absolute savage behind the kit... giving the All that Remains camp the well need heavy boost which 'This Darkened Heart' had lacked on drums.

Honestly, I could rant and rave about this album but I will spare your time...
All you need to know is THIS is the premier New-Wave-Of-American-Metal album... hands down!
Prior to this CD I would have ranked, `This Darkened Heart' or Unearth's `The Oncoming Storm' as the premier Metal-Core Album.... But this, my friends, takes the cake!
