Free Music Review: I like it but there is way too much clean singing for this band
Hit: 3 Stars

If this was a new band I would say very good first outing. But they are not new, this is All That Remains. Just too much clean singing here. I can't believe I'm saying this, I love clean singing but it feels like it's 90% of the album. I want the dark deep screaming with the high screeches in the back ground. Also another review stated that the singing in the first album was erie of some sorts. I agree this singing is clearly poppy in nature. Good thing is that they don't sound like clones of KSG anymore. I'll forget the The Fall of Ideals was ever made. Someone stated that the first album was more technical. Again I agree. Blend Album 1 with album 3 and you have something. I'm convinced bands are told to lighten up for more commercial output. This Darkened Heart was so much better musically. I like this album though.

Free Music Review: Getting A Bit Too Mainstream
Hit: 3 Stars

Once upon a time, All That Remains was a pretty powerful melodic death metal band known for their rapid fire double bass attack and the better than average vocals of Phil Labonte. However, on their 2008 release Overcome, we are presented with an album that is, sadly, more fluff than substance. Don't get me wrong, the thriving melodic metal that made All That Remains good to begin with remains, but it has become more melody than metal when it should be the other way around for such a band as this. Decent effort, especially with the Nevermore cover, but there are far superior works from this group.

Free Music Review: Producers are the Key
Hit: 3 Stars

All i have to say, since everyone else pretty much stated all necessary information, if All That Remains had taken all of this material, vocals included, and let "Adam D" work his magic with it, we would all be a lot happier. Producers are crucial, and they were working with one of the greats in the metal/hardcore world. They should have stuck with it.

In its rawest sense, however, it is still great material.

Free Music Review: It Depends
Hit: 3 Stars

If this is the first ATR album you listen to you might actually really like it, and I couldn't blame you. However if you're a dedicated ATR fan you'll notice a severe change, and IMO a fall-off in quality from their previous two albums. Even for a long-time ATR fan, it's not a bad cd, but it's mediocre at best compared to Fall of Ideals and This Darkened Heart.

Free Music Review: The Fall of All That Remains
Hit: 3 Stars

At first this didn't even sound like the same lead singer from the last album. I don't like their sound, it has no edge to it. The singing sounds especially sugar coated. This album doesn't flow like the last one. I don't really care for most of This Darkened Heart or this one.
