Free Music Review: TALENT.
Hit: 5 Stars

The very first time I saw Allison Iraheta was when she performed her rendition of Michael Jackson's "Give In To Me" on American Idol. Since that moment on I've been stuck on her, What a lovely voice she has. Her vocals are far beyond her years. She was only 16 on the show and has vocals that are comparable to other grown singers outside of her age bracket such as P!NK, Kelly Clarkson and even Christina Amphlett of the 80's band "DiVinyls". I'm even reminded of Tina Turner, for many reasons she (Tina) just comes to mind. It's so alarming how much she sounds like these women especially at her young and tender age. Surprisingly P!NK co-wrote on one of songs which is a favorite of mine "No One Else".

Judging by the album title, the artwork and first single "Friday I'll Be Over You" which was produced by MAX MARTIN (The Producer of the worst albums by Talented people, Avril Lavigne-The Best Damn Thing, Kelly Clarkson-All I Ever Wanted, The Veronicas-Hook Me Up, And some overproduced P!nk Tracks etc) you can tell that they (Whoever they are)... Want Allison to appeal to an audience under (18) and the Disney followers. While maybe (3) or (4) songs are completely bubblegum Allison Iraheta is still respected as a true singing artist in my book. She also "just" became (17) and even though that age is "pushing it" I can let it slide since none of the songs are "Kiddie". Most of the tracks on this album are mature, ROCK solid, and touching, Like "Scars" "Don't Waste The Pretty" "Trouble Is..." "Title Track" & "Still Standing". This girl is definitely not another Demi Lovato or Selena Gomez (she's FAR beyond the two), Yet (again), Her first single, The Album cover & Title will have you fooled (It's all marketing).

I compare this album to other Pop/Rock album's like Kelly Clarkson's "All I Ever Wanted" P!NK's "Funhouse" Katy Perry's "One Of The Boys" and the unreleased "Sunday Love" by Fefe Dobson. It's the same formula, same arrangements, same concepts. The only difference is Allison's is a bit more powerful and concentrated in areas, for instance... how some of the lyrics are worded which is something the album's above aren't as strong in (I'm not saying this because Allison's album is NEW and I'm crazy about it, "It is what it is"). I Have all the records of the ladies I mentioned above and more. Allison Iraheta's release by far ranks #1 (to me) with P!NK's "Funhouse" & Fefe's "Sunday Love" tailing behind her.

I've noticed some comparing her to Avril lavigne, But that's a given (due to Genre/sound/age/gender) and the demograghic that tunes into both artists, and is not a bad thing at all, It's all great production and alot of the Pop/Rock female artists out right now album's are all interchangeable in sound (Ashley Tisdale, Suzie McNiel, Melissa O'Neil etc, etc, etc) The voice just changes (Sometimes).

The "Daughtry" written iTunes-bonus-track "Don't Wanna Be Wrong" is a bang and a must have, This track sounds very early 90's. I know this is cliche' but "This track shouldv'e made the original album". Still, It's a great album (Can't say it enough) The only songs that have some growing to do are "Holiday" & "Robot Love". They're not bad songs at all I'm just bored with the "Britney-Spears-womanizer-If-U-Seek-Amy-Katy-Perry-I-Kissed-A-Girl-P!nk-So-What-Christina Aguilera-Keeps-Gettin-Better-Kristinia Debarge-Good-Bye-Kaci-Battaglia-Crazy-Possessive-Thump-Bassline" A.K.A. The "Gary Glitter-Rock-And-Roll-Beat" Which is actually sampled in "Robot Love". Other than that I have nothing bad to say about this album. It Showcases Allison's amazing talent and the songs are well written.

(AGAIN & AGAIN) This is a SOLID release from Allison Iraheta, Anything off of the release could be a possible single, Including the song's with the "Britney-Spears-womanizer-If-U-Seek-Amy-Katy-Perry-I-Kissed-A-Girl-P!nk-So-What-Christina Aguilera-Keeps-Gettin-Better-Kristinia Debarge-Good-Bye-Kaci-Battaglia-Crazy Possessive-Thump-Bassline" A.K.A. The "Gary Glitter-Rock-And-Roll-Beat"

One more thing, I know alot of you FANS will most likely be too young to remember this band and song, But... Check out "I Touch Myself" by ---->DiVinyls<---- and listen to how much the lead singer and Allison sound EXACTLY the same. See for yourself.

- "One More Reason Why" Is an iTunes track that also shouldv'e made the album.

- Allison Iraheta was dropped from her record label due to low numbers in sales. This worries me. She's already begun writing her second album, I'm fearful that she's going to team up with mainstream producers such as MAX MARTIN, "The DREAM", Danja, BLOODshy & Avant and all the many producers that the majority of artists are using to get Radio play. These Producers are digitizing everyone's music and making all these artists sound completely the same with manufactured, Overprocessed beats and no substance in lyrical content. Think Britney, Spears, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Electronica-fused-HipHop. Is that the sound you want? I hope she continues to do what she did on this album. It would be a big waste of TALENT if she goes in the other direction.

Just Like You Poster

2009 debut album from the American Idol finalist. Allison Iraheta is a gutsy, original, incredible stand out voice; and at only 17 years old has many hits in front of her. The daughter of Salvadoran immigrants, she is the youngest contestant ever to place in the Top 12 on American Idol and the fourth place finisher on AI's eighth season. Often described as 'Kelly Clarkson meets Janis Joplin' and compared to both P!nk and Avril Lavigne, Allison is ready to make her own mark with her debut album which features production from some of the biggest and best in Pop and Rock hit making including Max Martin, Kevin Rudolf and Howard Benson.
