Free Music Review: The Hardest Part...Delivers After All the Initial Promise
Hit: 5 Stars

This second offering from Ms Moorer, owes as much to the influences of Gram Parsons,Prince and the Rolling Stones as it does to her Southern Country roots and traditional country. This is as close to a complete melding of styles as you can get,and shows that she is as everybit as versatile as her older sister,Shelby Lynne ,in delivering a standout product.

The voice is paramount, that soft and husky southern drawl still delivers melancholy and bittersweet songs, that higlights everything that is good in traditonal country with a new rock solid edge. The production on this CD is innovative and and full blooded, which stands it apart immediately from the debut offering.Ms Moorer is benefitting from the tight relationship with her husband who writes or co writes with her on this CD,this is simply country rock at its finest.

Ken Greenberg's influence on this CD can not be understated, from the production credits to the soaring guitar work throughout. The string arrangements on this are excellent, and after the initial listen you have to sit back and think,"Wow what happened between CDs?"I have benefitted from listening to this for nearly a month and I can say that this has the enduring appeal that really puts anything Shania Twain or Faith Hill have done into a distant second place.

Every song on this offering is excellent. The CD is bookended by the title track, which picks up from where *Alabama Song* left off and ends with the more traditional *Feeling That Feeling Again*,and a strange and untitled hidden track, which is pure country, and acts as a slow down from the soaring preceding songs. The only complaint I can identify is the *cramming together* of the final two tracks, which highlights an untidy and unnecessary fade out on Feeling That Feeling Again*..but that is minor compared to the *meat * of this CD.

From the moment,*Day You Said Goodbye* starts you are taken on an unforgettable ride. From the soaring vocals and great production qualities,I could not help but think that along with Patsy Cline and Emmy Lou Harris influences, there was a touch of *Wild Horses* by the Rolling Stones, and of *Purple Rain* by Prince lurking in the arrangements.*Its Time I Tried* and* Best That I Can Do* are infectious. This trilogy of songs becomes more memorable after several plays and shows the ability of Ms Moorer to delivera great lyric and melody.

The standouts on this CD,in my opinion ,are the single *Send Down An Angel*and*No Next Time*.What classic tracks, the equal of Wide Open Spaces,by the Dixie Chicks, and destined to establish Ms Moorer as the foremost innovator in modern country music. This CD sits with *This Is Shelby Lynne* as two of the best releases in the last two years.

The former track is simply hypnotic and epitomizes what a great and emotional delivery can do for a song, and that voice...this appeals as a radio play and simply a great album track. The production is tight the musicanship is great. The song benefits from a well crafted video and higlights the sensual appeal of the lyric and the artist. This is adult country, with substance.

The tour de force,is *No Next Time*,which is delivered as a showcase for Ms Moorer's undoubted talent and delivery. That sountern drawl ,that bittersweet lyric..when she sings *again ,again, again*,you melt. The duet with Lonesome Bob is understated but perfectly suited to the song and the chorus/bridge is simply memorable mixed with the heavenly string arrangement.I could not help but thinking that songs like this one come along once or twice a decade.Prince did it on *Purple Rain* which remains today a tribute to his eccentric talent, and Greenberg's production on this one is not dissimilar in feel.Guns N Roses tried to do it ,with lesser success on *November Rain*,but still captured the moment which shows that modern country and rock share similar roots.

The musicians here complement Ms Moorer and undoubtedly bring out the best in her.She has written ,played and co produced and arranged on this outing,is there no bounds to her talents. This CD has highlighted Ms Moorer's growing maturity and her ability to produce a great CD out of Nashville.Every play of this will have you loving the product more and more, and will have you getting out *Alabama Song* for one or two more listens.

My recommendation, based on my preference for artists that stretch the bounds and take country into new frontiers ,whilst yet keeping with its sounthern roots of tradition,is not surprisingly,5 stars.I base this on the ability of Ms Moorer to use her talents to deliver...again!!!!!Listen to the magic!!!!
