Free Music Notes for Decade of Hits 1969-79Free Music Review: ALLMAN JOYS Hit: 5 Stars
THE ALLMAN BROTHERS-A DECADE OF HITS: No southern rock ensemble has done more for that style of music or lasted longer than the almighty Allman Brothers, and A DECADE OF HITS admirably covers their most prolific period (1969-79). In the interest of single disc clarity, most of their lengthy career defining jams from AT THE FILLMORE EAST (their landmark live album featuring late slide guitar maverick Duane "Sky Dog" Allman) are not presented here in concert form. Between brother Gregg's smoldering RNB excursions via MIDNIGHT RIDER and WHIPPING POST and Dickey Betts' sweet 'n pure country leanings on RAMBLIN' MAN, BLUE SKY, and JESSICA, the boogie boys deliver a genre jumping grabbag that knows no boundaries. The Allmans' definitive cover of Elmore James' ONE WAY OUT is an arse-kickin' blooze masterstroke, while REVIVAL righteously reverberates with knee-slappin' gospel goodness. Slap this little thing of beauty called DECADE on, and you will be hard pressed to remain seated, let alone not testify right along!

Free Music Review: This is what great music is! Hit: 5 Stars
It's one of those CDs that I leave playing even when I walk out of the room. I don't enjoy leaving the room too much though because then I miss the music. It's got strong instrumentals that anyone could expect from these guys, but most of all it's the atmosphere that is created. It can be soft and somber and bluesy and rockin' and movin' and laying down in the span of the hour and change that passes by. Being new to the band, I only knew "Ramblin' Man" and I was one of those who heard "Jessica" and said, "So, THAT'S the name of that song!" But "Southbound" and "Melissa" have quickly become favorites. I have no idea if this IS really the ultimate greatest hits collection for these fellas because I just found out who they are. But I guess I can say that this collection is for those who enjoy Blues style, great guitars, and wild keyboards. I'm now debating whether to buy the Fillmore Concerts because I want to get a taste for their Live stuff. I doubt I'll be disappointed.
Free Music Review: all this music is delicious Hit: 5 Stars
I'll admit at first I did not like this album. I maybe listened to it once and put it back on the shelf thinking I would never pull it off again. but over a year I matured I guess and was reading a review of LIVE AT FILLMORE EAST and I got curious again. Why do people think this band is so brilliant I thought. So I pulled it off the shelf where it had been collecting dust and put it on. It took a couple of listens I'll admit but finally my brain cleared and I fell in love with it. My favorite song is the only song off the live album FILLMORE EAST. Statesborough blues, boy do I love that song. To think a band could play so perfectly live amazes me. I now want to buy Fillmore East because If any of the songs are as good as Statesborough Blues Live then its worth it. All the songs on this CD are great so buy it or buy Eat a Peach see if you like that and then start collecting the albums individually thats the way I would have gone. Anyway yes this has great songs.
Free Music Review: ONE OF THE FINEST ALBUMS I OWN Hit: 5 Stars
This album, a collection of greatest hit (even though, in my humble opinion, ALL their songs were hits)is simply SUPERB. This is what Rock and Roll USED to sound like. Whats happened to it now is beyond me. The Allman Brothers instilled FEELING and EMOTION into their songs, kinda like the original R&B singers (ie. Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendergrass, etc) did in the late 60's early 70's. Put this album/cd/tape on and let it play. From the very first chord you'll be dancing around, playing air guitar and even (my fav) AIR PIANO as if you're a member of the band!!! Southern rock was great. Too bad there's no music like this being produced today. This is a must have for any music collection, no matter what type of music you're into. 10 STARS. Favorite song????? All of them, but I've always been partial to "Sweet Melissa" Unfortunate for me, I was too young to ever see the Allman's perform live. I can only imagine what a show that would have been (A-la Grateful Dead). Rock on.

The guy from Colorado below me is pretty right. When I first the Allmans (A borrowed Brothers and Sisters), I didn't really care to much about it, then I kept hearing good things about them. Soon I had all their albums and some live tapes. It just takes a little maturity and time. (I have over 150 CD's, mostly classic rock, and they are probably my favorite band, with Blue Sky being my favorite song ever). If you are looking to buy a first CD of thiers, and like to collect the albums (like me), start out with Beginnings if you like harder music (like I should have) or start with Eat A Peach if you like softer music (though at first skip the Mountain Jam). Then get Fillmore later (It is thier best, but I didn't get used into for the longest time). That is just what I think. Or you can get this, which is a really good compilation and covers the main and commercial highs the band recieved.
