Free Music Notes for Decade of Hits 1969-79Free Music Review: Wonderful Compilation Of 70s Allman Brothers Classics Hit: 5 Stars
A DEACADE OF HITS 1969-1979 is a wonderful compilation of Allman Brothers classics from the 70s. All of their albums from this period, except for WIN, LOSE, OR DRAW, are represented by one to four songs. There are so many exceptional cuts here that nothing really stands out. The fact that past and present members of the Allmans advocate sanctions against countries which convict foreign tourists for trumped-up crimes proves that these guys have good hearts as well as lots of great music, making this CD/cassette an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience. You should buy this one while you're buying the first five albums and ENLIGHTENED ROGUES.
Free Music Review: Super "Best of" CD that will leave you Wanting More Hit: 5 Stars
This is a very nicely done Greatest Hits from the Allmans. They recorded some incredible songs after the death of Duane (Melissa, Southbound, Wasted Words, Crazy Love, Jessica etc) and they are featured here in addition to Duane classics from the 1st 4 albums. Too bad there wasn't enough room for Can't Loose What You Never Had, Don't Want You No More/Not My Cross To Bear, Pegasus, Trouble No More and some of the other Allman classics from the 70s, but overall this is their best single complilation CD. I would also check out "An Evening With the Allman Bros" and "Where It All Begins" to see how great they still sound in the 1990s.
Free Music Review: Great collection, best as an introduction Hit: 5 Stars
The ABB is simply one of the best bands to ever grace the radio waves, vinyl and CD's. This a great highlight of some of their best tunes. I don't know about "hits" but there is a lot of meat here. Besides the radio through the 70's and 80's and a cousins old LP, it was my intro when it came out. To really appreciate the depth and genious of this band, you need to acquire the studio CD's and the fascinating live at the Fillmore and more. For a casual fan this is a must, only problem is, if you listen to it too much this band is habit forming and you will have to dig deeper and get all of their stuff
Free Music Review: The Allman Brothers Band - "The Glory Years" - Including Some Guitar Performances by the "late/great" Duane Allman!!!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
There have already been plenty of reviews on this one, so I'll just point out a few things. How about a "Big Thanks" to all the previous reviewers who gave this one a 5 star rating!!!! This is an excellent 16 song cd of the Allman Brothers Band "classic hits & songs".
You get songs like "Statesboro Blues", "Ramblin'Man", "Midnight Rider", "Southbound", "Melissa", "Jessica", "Revival", "Blue Sky" "One Way Out", "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed", "Dreams", "Whipping Post" and others.
This is a great cd, and I highly recommend it. Thanks!!!
Free Music Review: A Peach of a collection Hit: 5 Stars
" Eat A Peach" was my introduction to the Allman Brothers. I loved that album, but this overview collection is probably the best for someone who hasn't been initiated. As all greatest hits attempt to do, this CD hits the high spots, with some unexpected gems like " In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" and " Revival". It's easy to forget how relevant these guys were, seeing that their heyday was cut short by tragedy and the main homage paid on FM radio is " Rambing Man". Check this one out. It will make a believer out of anyone.
