Free Music Notes for Ally McBeal: For Once in My Life Featuring Vonda ShepardFree Music Review: Classic performers and a pleasant surprise from Downey Hit: 5 Stars
I've read other reviews that slam Robert Downey Jr.'s singing abilities but I have to disagree. I thought his contributions to the soundtrack were a great expression of his talent. The CD as a whole was diverse and exciting, it stays in my car stereo. I think most critics don't appreciate a good collection that you can sing along with on the daily commute. Overall, Barry White is always good, Vonda Shepard is good but should try some original material. The standout performance is Downey Jr.'s "Snakes". Considering the great hurdles he has struggled with,I applaud his considerable talent and his willingness to try new directions. Highly recommended if you like a enjoyable music experience!
Free Music Review: Ally fans will enjoy this one!! Hit: 5 Stars
Ally fans will enjoy this CD. It starts off much more melancholy than the first two but picks up nicley in the middle. The magic that Robert Downey Jr. brings to the show he also brings here. I can really feel the show more in this CD than I could in the first two. When listening to "Chances Are" and "Every Breath you take", one can really see Ally and Larry and what true Ally fan can't help but dance like John Cage when hearing Barry White sing "the first, the last, my everything". At times Vonda Shepard can be a bit flat, but this CD is worth the buy (for Robert Downey Jr alone). The songs here really take you into the show. Ally fans will enjoy this.
Free Music Review: Chances Are You'll Love This CD Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is amazing - it conveys the feelings of the show so well! Vonda Shepard has a great voice and is wonderful as usual. I totally disagree with the amazon.com reviewer and think that Robert Downey Jr. is just awesome here. His voice is very sexy, mysterious, etc. - I could go on and on. He just does a great job - I especially love his duet with Sting and "Chances Are" with Vonda is simply beautiful. Tina Turner is great also with "When the Heartache Is Over." And a little bit of Barry White thrown in there to make you want to get up and dance! Off to the unisex! Buy it - you won't be disappointed!
Free Music Review: RDJ is talented.... Hit: 5 Stars
At first, being a Robert Downey, Jr. supporter, I only listened to his three tracks....finally, I listened to the rest and was pleasantly suprised! Vonda tends to overwhelm me (and anybody she's singing with) with her vocals, but she is a little more restrained here. Best tracks include: You and Me, Home Again and Can We Still Be Friends. Downey's best track is "Snakes", a cool, funky love song (with challenging lyrics--what exactly is he saying?!)And how can you not enjoy "You're the First, etc." by Barry White and not see everyone dancing in the Unisex? Buy this CD--you'll love it.
Free Music Review: Great! Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this CD mainly to hear Robert Downey Jr sing. I had no idea how beautiful his voice is! I disagree completely with the Editorial Review that says he sounds like he is straining to emulate Sting. He has an amazing voice, truly his own. I keep catching myself telling Sting to be quiet! "Snakes" is a treat- different from the other songs on the soundtrack in a refreshing way. And "Chances Are" with Vonda is my favorite. They sing so beautifully together! I wish Robert would sing some more! How about a CD of his own?? Please?
