Free Music Notes for Alone in IZ WorldFree Music Review: What it IZ, bruddah? Hit: 5 Stars
Here's what it is: IZ!! For those unfamiliar with music from the isles just listen to the soft, melodic "Hi'ilwae" and tell me you aren't thirsting for more! The lovely Mrs. Miller and I picked up this CD on our recent trip to Hawaii and can't stop listening to it. My favorite is the remake of "In This Life", the final cut on the CD. Isarel says that in the last five years of his life, his image and position in the community dramatically changed. Well, in my musical library (that runs the gamut from country to pop to classic rock and oldies) this CD IZ the one to own. That is the image I have of him ... number one. I read about his life and passing, because I wanted to know more. Now, I anxiously await delivery of Israel's other CD's. This CD is great, but how could you not want them all?
Free Music Review: ALONE IN IZ WORLD Hit: 5 Stars
I LIVED ON THE ISLAND OF OHAU FOR TWO YEAR AND HAD NEVER HEARD OF IZ BEFORE. I'VE MOVED BACK TO THE MAINLAND NOW AND HEARD HIS SONG "SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW," AND I HAVE BEEN A FAN SINCE. I HAVE NOW BOUGHT ALL OF THE CD'S THAT HE HAD MADE BEFORE HE PASSED AWAY. THEY ARE IN MY TRUCK WITH ME AND IN MY HOME AND I LISTEN TO THEM OVER AND OVER AGAIN, NEVER TIRING OF HEARING HIS WONDERFUL VOICE. HE REMINDS ME OF THE WONDERFUL PART OF THE WORLD I HAD THE CHANCE TO LIVE IN FOR A WHILE, AND MAKES MY HEART SAD THAT I AM NOT THERE ANY LONGER. HE WAS A WONDERFUL MAN, WITH A GIFTED VOICE,WHO CARED ABOUT HIS HOMELAND AND WANTS EVERYONE TO KNOW WHAT A DREAM PLACE IT CAN BE. AND "GOD" DOES HE MAKE ME WANT TO WALK ONCE AGAIN "ON THE WHITE SANDY BEACH OF HAWAII."
Free Music Review: Almost Heaven Hit: 5 Stars
I have several IZ CDs -- I recommend Facing Future as his best. IZ died in 1997 at age 38 from respiratory distress and heart problems associated with a genetic illness that caused him to gain massive weight. His voice is Hawaiian. His syntax is Hawaiian. His thinking is Hawaiian. He plays the Ukelele well and has a voice from heaven. Many people first heard him when watching the closing scene of "Fifty Dates." Who can sing that heavenly they thought and became fans of Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole. I discovered IZ brousing about You Tube. Years ago I went to college in Maui, before IZ was born. His singing brings me back home. IZ said he was not afraid of death - as Hawaiians have one foot on both sides anyway. If you let him, he comes back now and then. Enjoy.
Free Music Review: A true range of emotions blended into IZ's voice Hit: 5 Stars
Happiness, sadness, joy, love, longing, regret, I could go on. As the other reviewers have noted, this is a great album and sadly a coda to an artist that will definitely live on through his music. The timbre of IZ's voice is so beautiful and rich that you *experience* so many different feelings when you hear him singLike others, I was drawn to his version of "Over the Rainbow." While that song is great, the rest of the album shines equally as bright. I admit that I wish that the songs that have posthumous arrangements and music added had been left in more of its original simplicity: just song, IZ's singing and the ukelele. This is my first introduction to IZ's music, but it won't be my last.
Free Music Review: Rich and thought provoking Hit: 5 Stars
I went to Maui this year and wanted to bring back a CD for a friend. I stopped at a local Hawaiian art shop and asked about traditional Hawaiian CD's. I was shown some CD's then was told that I might like Iz. 'Alone in Iz World' was highly recommended, unfortunately all of Iz's music was sold out so I chose something else. Because the clerk spoke so highly; I ended up hunting the CD down. She was right, the music is mood refreshing and it certainly is timeless. My husband commented on Iz's gentle spirit that comes across in his music. He has been described as the big man with an even bigger heart and his music reflects this and more.
