Free Music Notes for One Day RemainsFree Music Review: super Hit: 5 StarsI loved this album right from the start. I was sorry to see Creed dissolve, but I love the sound of this band. Myles Kennedy, the lead singer, has such a fantastic vocal range, and Mark Tremonti, the lead guitarist, really let's it fly here. His playing is very tight and aggressive; great stuff. My only complaint about this band is what the hell is taking so long to get that second album out? Come on, guys. It's been three years; let's get a move-on here.
Free Music Review: Fantastic new rock album.... Hit: 5 StarsI never heard of Alter Bridge until a buddy of mine gave it to me for my Bday recently. Wow! Now, that I've listened to it. I can't stop.
The sound is tight and it's a good return to a real rock-and-roll type of sound, even with great guitar solos!
The lead singer can hit just about every note imaginable and pull them off perfectly.
The whole album is great but tracks 7-10 are outstanding. If you like rock and you are looking for something new or to try something new, give this album a shot. I don't think you will be disappointed.
Free Music Review: Tremonti, Flip, and Marshall never sounded better! Hit: 5 StarsUnless you live under a rock, you most likely know that Mark Tremonti and Scott Phillips reunited with former Creed bandmate Brian Marshall to form Alter Bridge. With Myles Kennedy at the helm, this is not Creed with a new singer. Oh no my friend! This band is what Mark Tremonti has wanted since he started playing guitar. Remember, he's a Metallica fan. What we have here is a debut CD from a completely original band. Full of guitar solos, soaring wide range vocals, fast and acurate drums, and a thundering metal-style bass. Yeah, these guys rock! Hard!!! See if you can find some way to put Godsmack and Queenryche in the same boat, and spin 'em around until they are one band. If you can imagine that, and dont think you'll ike it, then... Well, you should still listen to this CD anyway.
Here's a breakdown of what you'll find on the debut CD:
1- Find the real. (Chugging riffs and pounding drums, with pinched harmonics all over the place. Solid way to open the CD and show the world who they are!)
2- One Day Remains. (Great drum intro. Very fast guitar riff. More harmonics... this is starting to sound like a Zakk Wylde record! Great vocal harmonies make this a very uplifting song. And more than one Tremonti guitar solo.)
3- Open Your Eyes. (This one sounds as close to Creed as these guys get. The main guitar riff is similar to something from a louder song off of "Human Clay." This one, Myles really shows off his vocals. A lot of Oooos and Ahhhs in the bridge. And one Killer Mark Solo! Biggest hit so far.)
4- Burn it Down. (A mellow starter. nice intricate picking by Mark. Very melencholy sounding. Slowly, the drums and bass come in. Then closer to the end of the song, Myles starts getting loud... And the rest of the boys follow him to a rocking end after another great guitar solo!)
5- Metalingus. (This song is deffinatly Mark's baby. Nothing but hard and fast instrumentation and loud vocals. Great headbanging song. This one is Mark's Metallica outlet! Metal!)
6- Broken Wings. (This one starts with a nice blues riff. And then more intricate Tremonti picking. After that it becomes very radio friendly. An alt-metal type song. Very solid.)
7- In Loving Memory. (Very mellow in regards to the other songs on this album. A tribute to someone lost, but it is not said who. Could be anyone. Meaning you could use it as a tribute to whoever you want. Full of intricate guitar work. And of course a corus and bridge with great distorted guitar that fits the Tremonti style very well. Flip is in and out with drum fill like he does. And Brian plays his part as if he were the rhythm guitarist. Keeping the beat and the rhythm strong while Mark picks and fills.)
8- Down to my Last. (Another great song for Myles Voice. He runs a good range in this one. This is another uplifting song. And the guiar and bass work are similar to "Higher" by Creed. But it is deffinatly its own monster. The guitar solo is fast and pinched, sounds like it could have been in a Motley Crue song in the late 80's. Great song!)
9- Watch Your Words. (A darker song. Very powerful guitars and bass. Great use of palm muting. Like Jethro Tull meets Metallica. Very Metal. Even some good false harmonics in this one. The bridge is like a hammer, very Zeppelin-esque. No real guitar solo though.)
10- Shed my Skin. (Starts very mellow again. Another good one for Myles vocals though. He shows everyone how good he is again. The song reminds me musically of Creed's "My sacrafice." I only use the Creed analogys because that is a close to Mark's current style as you can get. Keep in mind, this is a very different band. Good change-ups in the middle of this song. Tempo mixes up well. The Guitar solo is played under some nice harmonizing vocals from Myles and Mark. A little different, but very good indeed.)
11- The End is Here. (This one is pretty dark. A nice long guitar intro by Mark. Then a mellow couple verses from Myles and the band. Followed by a dark, overdriven riff that sounds like a clinched fist. The drums stand out quite well in this, they pound loud. Flip has some more very well timed fills in this one. The song also feature some good stop-start pieces followed by a nice intricate picking pattern. Also, later in the song you can hear a great string section along with Mark adding the wah pedal to the Guitar. After that Mark starts thowing in some more pinched harmonics. And the end of the song just absolutely pummels. It sounds like it could tear down buildings. Very Heavy Metal. A great way to end the album and leave you wanting more!)
Overall, I would say this is one of the top 5 rock albums released in the 00's. No kidding! Its a step above anything Creed put out. And yes, even the haters out there know, Creed had some geeat stuff. I know too many guys who changed their tunes one Creed got popular. But they were fans before that. But it does not take a Creed fan to enjoy this CD by any means. They are a great Hard Rock, borderline Heavy Metal band. Very enjoyable. Weather you are a guitarist, bassist, drummer, singer, or you just like to listen to good, solid music. You need to check this out. This show is well worth the price of addlission!
Free Music Review: opinon from a stapp hater Hit: 5 Starsfirst off i think creeed was really lacking in vocals their best song my own prison has the chorus sung entirely by tremonti
now to ab:
a great band plenty of guitar solos which most guitarists like disturbed and system would never be able to pull off myles voice definitely is better than the baritone idiot known as stapp kennedy has more of a cutting edge feel to the music and i think the ohhhhhhh in myles voice in most the songs is instrumental i enjoy it i mentioned the guitar solos great but is complented with kennedy rhythmn guitars now enough about myles and tremonti
phillips drums are definitely underated and hold the band together during meatalingus marshall is the most undrerated bassist of all time ab would not be so good without him my favorite song is watch your words the lyrics are incredible and for everyone who say ab is not christian than explain the line"to truly see well you must have faith saving grace that all we know let us pray let us hold on" my second favorite is buirn it down a slow song which i didnt like at first but it grows on you the only complaint is the chorus tremontis backing vocals are out of line with myles i think the entire chorus should be sang by mark yes mark he is an incredibly talented and underated vocalist as for the cd only complaint myles doesnt play enough guitar and tremonti doesnt sing enough i hope the next album will have more team work overall the third best band in the world below nickelback whom is number one and nirvana
Free Music Review: Not just a diet Creed Hit: 4 StarsNope, not a diet Creed at all, the trio of Tremonti, Phillips and Marshall teaming up with Myles Kennedy to produce a worthy entity totally separate to their former band. Only worrying factor regarding the split is that Alter Bridge - at least on the tour for this album - have no Creed songs in their live set whilst Stapp has happily merged his new stuff with his heritage. Watch this space for the hoped for addition of maturity....
Regardless, back to the music. In terms of tunes the band hits its' straps right away. Find the Real, One Day Remains and Open Your Eyes all working a steady charm on the listener in a way that is both modern but also very much in the sort of 'classic' hard rock vein that was somewhat missing in Creed.
Muscular riffs to match Kennedys voice about but that's not to say the band doesn't know how to marry a serious melody to their wattage, Metalingus being a case in point. The aforementioned track is also an example of the optimism that rears it's head on a regular basis, a feeling of a beautiful day after a storm.
