Free Music Notes for American Idol Season 3: Greatest Soul ClassicsFree Music Review: Bad singer, bad theme Hit: 3 StarsThese are actually good singers with the exception of Squeaky Idol Fantasia BORE-ino. This theme is a bad idea, though; can't get any boring than this. A better option would have been to choose for each contestant the best genre that fits his/her voice. Another overlooked item in this CD is the fact the ensemble song doesn't sound like one. Only Squeaky Idol's squeaks could be heard.
Free Music Review: Good! Hit: 4 StarsI found the album to be good as a whole. There were revelations such as Camille Velasco who didn't do that well on the show but definitely has the makings of an excellent recording artist. Breakdown:Chain of Fools-Fantasia: The sore thumb in this CD. Grade: F Me and Mrs. Jones-George: Good. B+ I Heard it Through the Grapevine-Diana: Good. B+ If You Don't Know Me By Now - La Toya: Excellent, as always. A Neither one of Us-Jennifer: Too over-the-top. D- You Make Me Feel Brand New-Amy: Okay. B The Dock of the Bay-Matt: Okay. B Midnight Train to Georgia-Jasmine: Good. A- My Girl-John: Good. B+ Until You Come Back To Me-Camille: Excellent. A+ Betcha By Golly, Wow - Leah: Okay. B You Are Everything-John: Good. B+ Ain't No Mountain High Enough-Ensemble: Sounds more like a recording of three or four people (sadly the worst three or four people). F
Free Music Review: Soul theme a bad idea Hit: 3 StarsOne word to sum up this theme: BORING. What the producers should have done was to showcase each contestant's BEST number, regardless of the category of music. Not everyone can do soul and not everyone wants to listen to such a boring genre. Fantasia just proved that: despite her best effort, she could do no better than deliver her horrific number not as Princess of Soul but as Queen of Ghoul. The eleven other finalists are talented and show their potential here despite the Valium-induced theme. Take away the Queen of Ghoul's track and the CD isn't half as bad.
Free Music Review: My ratings... Hit: 3 StarsChain of Fools-Fantasia: F Me and Mrs. Jones-George: B+ I Heard it Through the Grapevine-Diana: B+ If You Don't Know Me By Now - La Toya: A- Neither one of Us-Jennifer: D- You Make Me Feel Brand New-Amy: B The Dock of the Bay-Matt: B Midnight Train to Georgia-Jasmine: A- My Girl-John: A+ Until You Come Back To Me-Camille: A Betcha By Golly, Wow - Leah: B) You Are Everything-John: B+ Ain't No Mountain High Enough-Ensemble (supposedly): D-Very good overall. Squeaky Fantasia flunks and her overpowering squeaks in the supposed ensemble bring the ensemble score down.
