Free Music Notes for American Idol Season 5 EncoresFree Music Review: an excellent album even without a group performance Hit: 5 Stars
(4.5 stars)
American Idol Season 5 Encores features 12 awesome songs performed by the 12 finalists of American Idol's Season 5. This is very high quality control music; these men and women deliver these numbers with style, grace and so much genuine emotion that your CD player will practically shake just from the vibes as it plays this CD! The quality of the sound is excellent and I like the artwork very much. Just about the only thing missing is a group performance; but overall the CD is so good I can (almost) completely ignore it.
The album opens with Melissa McGhee doing a wonderful cover of "What About Love;" Melissa makes this sound fresh and new; and she never skips a beat, either! I really like Melissa's voice; she is perfectly suited to perform ballads like this and the rockin' sound of those guitars in the arrangement enhances this song even more--great! Bucky Covington also does great justice to Stevie Wonder's "Superstition;" Bucky sings this with a whole lot of feeling and that's grand. Bucky's performance is truly electric; and he more than proves that he has the chops to be a major recording artist. The guitars are used to great advantage and Bucky's excellent diction bolsters his performance even more. Bucky handles the complex tempo and key changes like the pro that he is--and always will be!
Mandisa does a superb job when she sings "I'm Every Woman;" Mandisa's performance is faultless and she throws herself deep into this ballad in order to give blood and make her audience thrilled to see and hear her perform. Mandisa is surely full of talent! In addition, the very popular Chris Daughtry performs at his usual best on "Wanted Dead Or Alive" which was written by Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora. I think they would be proud to hear this rendition of their ballad! "Wanted Dead Or Alive" is a major highlight of this album.
Taylor Hicks, who has been so successful, shines bright on "Takin' It To The Streets;" he delivers this with all his heart and soul and just one listen will prove it to you. His voice is able to make that "scratching" sound that always impresses me; and Taylor never lets go of a single superfluous note! The music fits in well with Taylor's singing but wisely the musicians never steal the show from Taylor. He remains squarely front and center--right where he belongs!
"Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)" gets the royal treatment by Lisa Tucker; she handles this very well and her singing is absolutely electric. I love it! Another very major highlight of this album would have to be Elliott Yamin's take on "Moody's Mood For Love" with lyrics by Eddie Jefferson. Elliott is incredibly talented and I predict that he'll be sharing his artistry with us for quite some while to come--if we're lucky! There's yet another gem in Katharine McPhee's "Think;" she does this flawlessly with solid backup. The CD closes with Kevin Covais performing an outstanding version of "When I Fall In Love;" Kevin's voice is very special and he shows so much talent on this track. I'm very impressed.
Overall, American Idol Season 5 Encores gives us so much great music from 12 very gifted people. I highly recommend this for fans of the artists on this album.
Free Music Review: The best CD I have ever owned! Hit: 5 Stars
American Idol 5 was the best season to date. And this CD proves it. Many extremely strong singers showed up on the show and the best of them made it into the top twelve (but I don't know how Gedeon or Will got beaten out by the suckfest that is Ace Young.)
I will list the order of the songs from the worst to the best.
THE ABSOLUTE WORST is...
Father Figure - Ace Young, this song is horrible. There's too much chorus and Ace doesn't have many strong lines in the song.
0.7/10
11th...
Moody's Mood for Love - Elliott Yamin, a very weak song. Elliott sounds more like he's talking rather than singing. The lines are also far too random.
2.8/10
10th...
Walkin' After Midnight - Kellie Pickler, an extremely powerful country song. I like the song quite a bit but the drum roll at the beginning is very irritating.
6.9/10
9th...
What About Love - Melissa McGhee, another powerful song. Though it isn't my absolute favorite, I love the song. McGhee has an awesome voice! 7.4/10
8th...
Wanted Dead or Alive - Chris Daughtry, the rocker dad did an awesome job with Bon Jovi's masterpiece. Not pitchy in the least but I don't realy like rock music :(
7.7/10
7th...
Think - Katharine McPhee, a slight dissappointment. The song can be headache-inducing. The beginning of the song JUST saved her from getting 8th place on my list.
7.8/10
6th...
Takin' it to the Streets - Taylor Hicks, long live the Soul Patrol everyone! This is an extremely powerful song. Hicks definitely made the song a classic (or even more of a classic than it was.) I wish him luck with his career.
8.2/10
5th...
Superstition - Bucky Covington, although I didn't like Bucky, he worked it out with this particular song. In my opinion, the only people that beat him in the Stevie Wonder round were Kevin, Mandisa and Lisa. This song has a great mix of Mowtown and country.
8.7/10
4th...
I'm Every Woman - Mandisa, one of the three best singers this season in my opinion. Mandisa is definitely a music superstar and will get some record deals in the future. That elimination was rigged... :P
9.1/10
3rd...
Midnight Train to Georgia - Paris Bennett, another favorite of mine. A true 21st century Gladys Knight. Bennett worked it out for this song. I love the southern style singing and the song has awesome lyrics.
9.5/10
2nd...
Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours) - Lisa Tucker, the best under-18 female vocalist I have ever heard. She was one of the best in the Stevie Wonder round (though America thought otherwise.)
9.9/10
AND THE ABSOLUTE BEST is...
When I Fall in Love - Kevin Covais, why can't anyone appriciate the hard work Kevin put into singing this song. He had the most personality out of all the performers. That's the problem with the music industry today: too many rockers and metal-heads. Few people like calm, relaxing music anymore. Kevin does not deserve the torture of being bashed by everyone anymore. Learn to appriciate all music in the world.
10/10
Free Music Review: American Idol- Season 5: Encores: A Look at EVERY track Hit: 5 Stars
American Idol Season 5 brought out the voices of many talented singers from Paris's ould soulful voice to Katherine's pop voice. It was a great CD and here are my thoughts about each track.
1.) What About Love- Melissa McGhee: Good. Not really a fan of hers.
2.) Superstition- Bucky Covington: Not very good... his country voice does not meet Stevie Wonder's great voice.. Raven Symone does it a little better version. America- If you said Lisa Tucker ruined "Because of You", Bucky ruined "Superstition" more!
3.) I'm Every Woman- Mandisa: Like Katharine's version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" this was Mandisa's element and probably signature performance. I did like her "Any Man of Mine" song even though Simon Cowell hated it!!
4.) Wanted Dead or Alive- Chris Daughtry: Ok... I'm am not really into rock, so Chris Daughtry is not really my favorite. SORRY!! I liked it when he sang "What a Wonderful World".. a very touching side of him.
5.) Father Figure- Ace Young: Not Really a Fan.. haven't listened to it yet.
6.) Takin' It to the Streets- Taylor Hicks: Good. Not my fav. song. He wasn't my first choice for being the American Idol.
7.) Signed, Sealed, Delievered (I'm Yours): AWESOME!! I love Lisa Tucker perform even when she was on Star Search. America- heads up!! She did not kill "Because of You"!! In this song, she had fun with it and I enhoyed hearing it. If I were Lisa Tucker, I thought she would sing "Here's were I Stand" or "Why Do Fools Fall in Love". The thing that bugged me a little bit about her song choices were at least 3 of them have been performed on Star Search, the show she was in which she lost to Tiffany Evans. Like Lisa sang "I'm Changing", "Why Do Fools Fall in Love", and "Who's Loving You" were all repeats. Lisa Tucker is da Bomb!! She deserves a record deal!
8.) Walkin' After Midnight- Kellie Pickler: Good... I'm not a country fan... Kellie should I have chosen "Fancy" (Even though it was ok) because she can take advantage of her country voice like Carrie Underwood in the Finale. I did like her "Unchained Melody" and "Bewitched, Bewoldered, and Bewildered"
9.) Moody's Mood For Love- Elliott Yamin: AWESOME!! Elliott is one of my fav. singers. I would have thought he would have chosen "A Song For You" because it is like his signature performance. I hope he gets a record deal!! I think of him as a love song performer.
10.) Think- Katharine McPhee- A very fun performance. She had a very pop twist to it when Aretha had a soulful voice on it. Mcphee's other good performances were" I Believe I Can Fly" and "Hound Dog/All Shook Up"... Hound Dog was my fav. so much fun.
11.) Midnight Train to Georgia- Paris Bennett: Her element and signature performance that really brings out her voice. I liked "Work it Out" She's a natural dancer.
12.) When I Fall in Love- Kevin Covias: I did not care for him. David Radford should have taken his place.
Overall: A good season. A great cd
Free Music Review: Outstanding, best Idol cd yet Hit: 5 Stars
As with every year, I am very happy with the American Idol cds. This year is no different. This is by far my favorite Idol cd. Each season tops the last. Very, very impressed with all the talent this year.
"What About Love" by Melissa McGhee - this song really shocked me. I was so surprised by Mel's vocal power. It was sad her talent didn't last longer.
"Superstition" by Bucky Covington - this is one of my all time favorite songs and Bucky does a decent job. It's great to dance to.
"I'm Every Woman" by Mandisa Hundley - the perfect song for Mandisa. Okay vocals, overpowered by the background music. Good dance song, but Mandisa is yet to show that she is a true diva. Once she is a diva, she can drop her last name. Until then, don't try to be a diva Mandisa, act like a real person. It was an okay vocal, good song to sing to.
"Wanted Dead Or Alive" by Chris Daughtry - love, love, love Bon Jovi and I love Chris. Beyond one of the best male idols ever. amazing vocals.
"Father Figure" by Ace Young - he is my favorite and this is my favorite song by him. This is just a perfect song for Ace. Stunning vocals and the falsetto is to die for. Amazing Ace!
"Takin' It To The Streets" by Taylor Hicks - this is YOUR American Idol. Love this song. Taylor knows how to sing it! Awesome! Fun, just great song!
"Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)" by Lisa Tucker - I just love this song and Lisa is an amazing singer. She deserved better than 10th place.
"Walkin' After Midnight" by Kellie Pickler - I like Kellie, don't love her. This is a good song for her, I like it. I would have prefered a different song like her semi-finals song "How Far" which she nailed. I think the song is better than Kellie, I just think Kellie needs a better song.
"Moody's Mood For Love" by Elliott Yamin - my second favorite guy this year. Elliott is stunning. His vocals on top and he can sing any song and make it his song. This song is perfect for Elliott and I just love it!
"Think" by Katharine McPhee - my favorite female this year, I LOVE Kat! This was one of my favorite songs and I'm glad it's on the album. Perfect dance song, amazing vocals. Just perfect!
"Midnight Train To Georgia" by Paris Bennett - Paris is amazing and she is on fire. She just nails this song and it's WAY better than Jasmine's version on the season 3 cd. Sweet job Paris!
"When I Fall In Love" by Kevin Covais - never was a fan, probably never will be EVER. Not crazy about the song or the vocals. It's like Nora Jones, it puts you to sleep.
Overall, this album was amazing. Best AI cd yet. Best songs are by Melissa, Chris, Ace, Taylor, Elliott and Kat. Amazing job well done to everyone!
Free Music Review: Not a Bad Group of Kids This Season Hit: 5 Stars
First, I have to say everyones a critic, me included. But honestly they all have some talent and major guts to get as far as they did. So lets give them credit here, they all deserve it.
With that said lets go:
Melissa Mcghee- What about Love- I love her voice. It's sexy and she can sing. She left way to early. I hope she finds success. 5/5
Bucky Covington- Superstition. How can anyone not like this kid. He seems so sincere and down to earth. I liked his voice. I think Bucky has what it takes to succeed. Decent voice. cute and very likable. Way to go Bucky. 4/5
Mandisa- I'm Every Woman. Not a big Mandisa fan. She has a nice voice but I don't think it was great recorded. She most likly sounds great in person. She seems confident and smart. Hope she'll do well in maybe gospel 3/5
Chris Daughtry- Wanted Dead or Alive. Loved Chris from the start. Don't love this song. He sounds ok. But not as well as expected. He'll go far I'm sure 3/5
Ace Young- Father Figure. Liked Ace from the start. I think his good looks both helped him and hurt him. But if you just judge the vocals he's the best on this CD. His recording voice is better then when he sang on the show. Its sexy and smooth. He will hopefully get a CD out fast and do well.5/5 *Note to future good looking american idols. If your cute don't give a sexy stare into the camera at the end of your song. Some people love it, but an equal number it turns off. If your hot, your hot it will come across.
Tayloe Hicks-Takin it to The streets. Decent. He seems like he is better in person. Don't get his appeal but many do so I'm sure we will be hearing alot of him.3/5
Lisa Tucker- Sighned sealed, She's very pretty and talented but I don't think this song is done well. 2/5
Kellie Pickler- Walkin After Midnight, Another cute girl, who can sing county decent. But that describes half of Nashville. Nothing really outstanding here. Hopefully others disagree. She seems sweet good luck to her.2/5
Elliott Yamin- Moody's Mood for Love Elliott has a great sexy voice. Its hot. Love him. Hope he does well. He should write a book about his life. Everyone loves an underdog story. Good Job.
5/5
Katharine Mcphee- Think, did not like. She is beautiful and sang great on the show. Her recording voice in this song is not that good. She seems suited for broadway.2/5
Parris Bennett- Midnight Night Train to Gerogia, She does have a strong voice. I don't like her style or the song. But if that type of style is your thing, She is good. 3/5
Kevin Covais- When I fall in Love. What can I say Kevin has guts and can sing ok. Should he be on a cd? Well hey, its America so why not. He sems like a smart kid hope he does well.
Thats it. Its worth the money, nice summer type music. Enjoy
