Free Music Notes for American Idol Season 5 Encores

Free Music Review: Advice from Nancy Drew
Hit: 5 Stars

I am a big fan of American Idol, and I thought this CD was really good. I liked almost all of the songs. I think it would have been better though if they had included an ensemble at the end like they did on last season's CD.

1.What About Love--Melissa McGhee I think this is one of the best on the CD. Good song for her, and I like her raspy voice.
2.Superstition--Bucky Covington After listening to this one several times, it started growing on me.
3.I'm Every Woman--Mandisa What a great voice, but this was not the best song choice for her. She sang so many others much better.
4.Wanted Dead or Alive--Chris Daughtry Same old rocker dude. A decent performance.
5.Father Figure--Ace Young Sexxxxxy song and smoothe voice. He gets my heart even though he was a bit cheesy on the show.
6.Takin' It to the Streets--Taylor Hicks He really is a winner. He is a one of a kind and has lots of fun with this song.
7.Signed, Sealed, Delivered--Lisa Tucker I think she has a bright future, and the "delivery" of this song was really nice.
8.Walkin' After Midnight--Kelly Pickler Better to see her perform with the whole package since her cuteness helps her pull off her songs. Still, decent.
9.Moody's Mood for Love--Elliott Yamin How can you not like this guy. The song was a bit boring, but his spirit makes up for it.
10.Think--Katharine McPhee Again, the more I listen to this one the more it grows on me. Powerful voice.
11.Midnight Train To Georgia--Paris Bennett She is good, but this song has been so overused. I like her Beyonce stuff better!
12.When I Fall in Love--Kevin Covais Pretty good for Chicken Little. He sings better when you actually don't have to look at him.

I think you would do well to buy this CD. Pure entertainment that helps you appreciate Season 5. Enjoy.

I just want to say that as far as seasons go this is probably the most diverse group of young hopefuls vying for the crown, and honestly, they are the best talent that AI has seen in a while. I actually enjoy hearing most of them each week. This album is the best AI album yet for it features an excelent selection of songs. Elliott Yamin is by far the standout here with 'Moody's Mood for Love'. He should have won, for he has the most polished voice I've heard on AI period. Another standout here is Paris with 'Midnight Train to Georgia' which was my favorite performance she gave all season. She is a true star with excelent vocal range and talent. Chris Daughtry serves up 'Wanted Dead or Alive' and while not my favorite performance he gave the recording is still solid (the judges were right, he has a great recording voice). Ace Young, the heartthrob of the season, does amazing with 'Father Figure' which is the perfect choice for him since it was his best performance. The song just suits him VERY well. Kelly is decent (not great song for her) & Lisa does great, as does Mandisa (I felt her overrated, but here she does well) and even Melissa (I wanted her to stick around) & Kevin serve up nice tracks (although I would have liked to see his version of 'You Raise Me Up' instead) and our two finalist Taylor Hicks (my favorite to win) and Katharine McPhee (stunning and very talented, but a bit over reaching at times) turn out brilliant tracks...My only let down was Bucky, but that's cuz I never liked him (although I will admitt that he sounds much better in the studio than he did on the show). All in all this is a great album featuring the best of the best and if your a true fan of AI you'll LOVE this.

Free Music Review: Biased, unfair, and $$$ costing review
Hit: 5 Stars

'Voters who contributed to his dismissal before the finals in favor of takin'-it-to-the-streets Taylor or--worse--mediocre Katharine McPhee will listen with their heads hung in shame. --Tammy La Gorce '

I don't think it was necessary to bash anyone in this overall amazon.com review of AI's new CD - least of all the winner. I can tell you that many of Taylor's avid fans have declared NOT to purchase this CD from amazon.com solely because of this review. I am a constant customer on amazon.com. so much so that I have the prime shipping feature. But, I WILL NOT purchase this CD from this site and I have placed a pre-order from Taylor's single, which I am going to cancel in the next minute or so.

Amazon may not tremble to loose my purchases, or even those of many of Taylor's multitude of fans in the 'soul patrol', but we will all feel better for having made the decision and taken the stand!

Taylor is going to have other releases in the future, while some of the other idols may or may not, over time amazon still may not feel the crunch of a few $$$ here or there, but because there are so many outlets for these items, I am making this choice for myself.

I love Bucky and Elliott and am happy with their contributions and also feel Katharine's rendention of 'Black Horse in Cherry Tree' might have been better, but there is nothhing wrong with this one. This was the best year of idol and these were the best contestants and Taylor is the most talented AI yet. If you love the show, you'll love the CD, just remember you have options.

Free Music Review: A Good Representation of Season Five Performers
Hit: 5 Stars

For anyone who enjoyed this past season, this is a nice walk down memory lane. Esp. notable is Elliott's tune, as it's so jazzy and tricky that the background arrangement had to stay sparse and out of the way, which is good. For in-house studio arrangments coming from the folks at AI, less is always more! Other notables: Melissa has a beautiful smoky voice and records well. Ace does a really good, breathy job with Father Figure. Chris did the rocker thing with Wanted Dead or Alive to great effect. Taylor sounds great, but I would have preferred the live AI version of Taking It To The Streets, because it was such a raw, iconic performance and the band also was smoking, especially the drummer. Here, he's saddled with a background arrangement that sounds like The New Christy Minstrels and a drum machine; a lesser performer would have been weighed down, but Taylor still manages to create energy and heat. Actually, I thought every cut was good in terms of vocals except Kat McPhee. Listening to a cover of Aretha Franklin's Think from a girl with not a shred of soul was difficult! A baffling choice. If I were managing her, I'd suggest she stick to simple, lovely songs and try not to oversing them. She's not a natural performer, she can be awkward and shrill, and while her voice is extremely lovely, her musical instincts are not yet where they need to be. A great choice for her would have been I Made It Thru The Rain as she sang it once on ET; a simple and sweet song, with the barest of arrangements, it led her into a musical place where she sounded just right.

Free Music Review: Buy if tor Moody's Mood for Love !
Hit: 5 Stars

Well, after listening to this album, I think people will agree that this season had some of the best talent ever on that AI stage .

The STANDOUT performance on the entire CD and the ONLY reason I have rated it five stars is for the track by Elliott Yamin - Moody's Mood for Love - this is an absolutely brilliant jazzy / soulful rendition that gives the original by James Moody a run for the money .

The platinum pipes of Elliott Yamin were the highlight of the whole season - you got it wrong , America - the REAL idol has already left the building , but I have no doubt at all that Elliott Yamin will have a successful recording career - five stars for you, Elliott !

Other honorable mentions on the CD are Paris Bennett with (Midnight Train to Georgia ) - THis was not my favorite Paris performance but she is on point vocally and her delivery is flawless . 4 stars

Ace Young - Not a huge Ace fan here , but I was pleasantly surprised by how well he did on Father Figure - 4 stars

Mandisa - Not my favorite Mandisa choice either but that girl can belt with the best of them ! 4 stars for her

THe only tracks I can not listen to in their entirety are those of Kellie and Kevin - very amateurish compared to the others .

Buy it for Moody's Mood for Love alone or download Elliott's single on ITunes if you don't want the entire album.
