Free Music Notes for American Mcgee's Alice (Score)

Free Music Review: Good but a bit too polished
Hit: 4 Stars

The music is well put together and can be quite immersive but it is very obvious that the album is digital. Vrenna said he used vintage children's toys as musical instruments but the sound is so clean and sharp that it sounds like everything was made with a computer and keyboard. I think the music would lend itself well to a bit of dirtiness. Wonderland Woods is a song that I would have given five stars in my little iTunes rating thing, had it brought to mind Wonderland or a choir rather than a keyboard.

I find some of the samples cheesy and a couple tracks are subpar compared to what Vrenna shows he is capable of in other songs. But I suppose considering it's a soundtrack, they are probably meant more to fit with a certain environment than provide good listenin'.

Free Music Review: Alice in Chains
Hit: 4 Stars

I have not played the game, Alice, but I am a big fan of game music, though not so much of the more "ambient" soundtracks. However, I really enjoyed this one. It's dark and creepy, to a point where you are drawn to listen to it. Each song comes across as more than just background music, with a disturbing mix of toy pianos, clocks, violins, female vocales, and other child-like devices. I hate to compare this work to something else, but it kind of reminds me of The 7th Guest and Silent Hill, with a happier, but more twisted, approach. The only thing I don't like about this soundtrack is that every song includes dialogue from the game, be it at the beginning, middle, or end of the track. I would have preferred pure music.

Free Music Review: creepy and dark, just like the game
Hit: 4 Stars

This is one of those CDs that you don't want to listen to while tripping on acid. It is great atmosphere music (especially for Halloween). There are also some samples from the game on it, a funny one: "Here'e a riddle, when is a croquet mallot like a billy club?... I'll tell you. Whenever you want it to be."

Free Music Review: Amazing and dark
Hit: 4 Stars

An excellant soundtrack for myself or any one else who is a bit (more)odd.I like the way Vrenna combines the synth with old wind up toys ,a few I had as a child. It can get a bit repetitve but that adds to its hypnotic qualities. An excellant background album for reading, drawing, or what ever your heart desires.

Free Music Review: A wonderful and unusual soundtrack!
Hit: 4 Stars

The soundtrack of the wonderful video game American McGee's Alice is a very experimental work. The music is disturbing, with some odd noises (from toys). It can remind the music from Silent Hill. The only regret is that some of the tracks are not exactly like they are in the game, but the feeling is the same.
