Free Music Notes for Amos LeeFree Music Review: an excellent debut album Hit: 5 Stars
Amos Lee's self titled debut album is so good. He plays the acoustic guitar like it is an extension of his voice. Both are soothing, soulful, and uplifting. I loved all the tracks on this CD, because I think his voice and lyrics in his songs are very moving.
My favorite track is Arms of A Woman. It is a beautiful love song about what it feels like to be in love with a woman. This feeling stays with you long after she is gone. I can listen to this track over and over because it is pretty. Keep it Loose, Keep it Tight is a song about trying to stay true to yourself while searching for what makes you happy. Black River is a great song that makes you forget all your problems. This song really puts your mind at ease. Some of these tracks sound like something you would hear during a jam session just playing and having fun especially the song Give it Up. This song has a lively beat that will get your feet tapping. All My Friends is the best friendship song I've heard in years. It is a song about the influence friends can have on you. Bottom of The Barrel is a song that reminds us that we can overcome any hardship in life and rise. It is a very optimistic song about never giving up. I enjoyed this CD very much.
Free Music Review: Make some leeway for Amos Hit: 5 Stars
Amos Lee is another one of those artists that I'd never heard of until I saw him on the Tonight Show. I picked up his album just to see what his music was like, and it turned out to be further proof that Blue Note records continues to churn out exceptional albums.
Reviewer Brian Prentiss really took the words out of my mouth. Comparisons to Norah Jones are kind of inevitable, but it's not to say that Amos isn't a great artist in his own right. There are plenty of highlights on here, from "Dreamin'" to "Colors" to "Soul Suckers". There's also "Arms of a Woman", which looks a little corny on paper, but it's all in the way Amos says it.
And when he branches out to different styles, he's still impressive, as evidenced by the funky "Give It Up" and the soul-induced "Seen It All Before". Actually, there really isn't anything bad to say about this album. The only thing that concerns me a LITTLE is something I've said before: I'm not sure how many people will want to pay full price for an album that's less than 40 minutes long (it clocks in at close to 36 minutes). Oh well, it'd still be worth the cash to hear some smooth and sophisticated tunes from this talented gentleman.

Free Music Review: A nice new voice to the folk/acoustic genre Hit: 5 Stars
I did not hear of this guy until I received an email from a music service I subscribe to, which touted his vocal abilities and dexterous acoustic playing. I'm glad I purchased this cd because I almost bought Jack Johnson's "In Between Dreams," which is not bad mind you, but I felt compelled to support an up-and-coming artist over one with an already established fan-based. I received this cd 5 days ago and have been listening to it ever since. He has soulful, uplifting vocals, and his song range from the contemplative to the adoration of female relationships. Although I felt this cat could really let it out with some more uptempo, funked-up songs, his mellow, yet not sappy style, works really well, with some nice organ and band work to boot. He reminds me of a modern day Bill Withers with his straightforward lyrics and emotive soul sound. In his future work, I would love to hear him use more background vocals, as "Give It Up" displays how wonderful this vocal arrangement works. I highly recommend this cd to those who are looking for something fresh and amazing from a breakthrough artist.
Free Music Review: AWESEOME! Hit: 5 Stars
I was surprised to read the reviews who say that Amos is the "male Norah Jones", because I've never interpreted him that way, EVER. That's not to knock either one of them, because I absolutely adore Norah AND Amos!! They both have that organic sound, like you could be sitting there listening to them on your front porch instead of in the car or in an arena, but to me that's where the similarities end.
I first heard Amos in Little Rock when he opened for Norah, and my impression has always been that there is a really strong James Taylor similarity going on there in both his playing style and his lyrics. His voice is multifaceted (strong, clear, smoky, rough, gentle), and it just pulls you in to where it feels like you're just a couple of friends conversing on life. The lyrics have a cozily familiar feel, and the lively and creative guitar playing just wraps everything up in a very cool package.
Buy it, buy it, buy it. Then make sure to see him live as soon as he plays anywhere near you. You definitely won't regret it.
Free Music Review: Very impressive debut album! Hit: 5 Stars
I came across this album by chance. I was looking around Amazon, and it came up. I looked at some of the reviews, and decided to take a chance. Let me tell you, I am in awe of this man. I know that others have compared him to Norah Jones (who I also love) but that's hardly fair. Amos Lee is his own man. His sounds reminds me a bit of Ben Harper. It's very refreshing to hear a musician of this caliber.
I don't understand how other reviewers can say that the songs on this album "blend together." Every one has destinction. Every one has it's own groove. Every one is great.
The lyrics on this album are only matched by the beautiful musicianship. "Go ahead baby and run away again - growin' tired of chasin' you - i know you only have time to love me - when you got nothin' better to do" You can feel the hurt in his voice.
I would easily recommend this to anyone who enjoys music. I'm in anticipation of his future work. If this is just his debut, watch out for this guy for a long, long time.
