Free Music Notes for Last Days At the LodgeFree Music Review: Almost sold it back Hit: 4 Stars
This was my first Amos Lee cd, and I bought it after hearing "Listen" and "Street Corner Preacher" featured on my local NPR station. The soulfulness of Amos Lee's vocals reminded me of Ben Harper, so I was looking forward to good things. I was disappointed at first listen, as the rest of the album lacked the urgency of the two tracks I had heard. It sounded like a lot of bland adult contemporary radio music out there, and as a result I stashed Last Days of the Lodge down on the bottom shelf of my collection. I pulled it out a few months later to give it one more spin before I traded it in at the used cd store, and I was amazed. I connected with every track, even ones that I had thought were kind of cheesy before like "Won't let me go." Amos Lee just has a very natural groove, so I would definitely give this one a chance.
Free Music Review: Grows on you Hit: 4 Stars
Though the singing is great and the instrumental pleasing throughout, this CD doesn't quite match the lofty standards set by his first two CDs.
But it is still a strong album and, after a few more listens, grew on me so much that it's now on constant rotation at my house. Highlights include "Listen," "Baby I want You," "What's Been Going On," and "Better Days."
Give it a try. It gratifies in a way most music cannot.
Free Music Review: My Best New Artist Hit: 4 Stars
It's been a long time since I've really let a new artist into my orbit, and I know Amos Lee is not exactly new, but I think he's amazing. He blends some street-funk sensibilities with folk-pop-rock, and I listen to Last Days at the Lodge over and over. The lyrics are intelligent, his voice is warm and inviting, even reminding me of Al Green on songs like "I Wanna Know". I highly recommend this album, and all of Amos Lee's work.
Free Music Review: Good, but not his best Hit: 4 Stars
Amos Lee is a great musician/song writer, and he really shows it on one track of this CD. "Street Corner Preacher" is some of his best work and by itself is worth the price of the CD. The rest of the album is mediocre, however, so I would characterize this as a 3.5 star effort.
Free Music Review: New Album for Amos Lee a little different in style Hit: 4 Stars
After listening to Amos Lee's new CD I was surprised to hear something different. His high pitched voice can out and what a different thing to hear from Lee. I certainly look forward to hear more from this fine artist.
